so ive been at this for a week or so and have figured out alot from both trial and error and these forums but i have few questions.

this is how i think the atomizer works, correct me if im wrong: the juice goes from the cart to the metal mesh stuff [the bridge?], then is seeps down from that to the white ring i can see [the wick?], then when i push the button on the battery something under the bridge heats up [heat element?], and i then suck in vapor produced trough the edge of the cart. is that about right?

also, if the atomizer is hissing (and glowing) when i press the battery button is that good or bad?

is it neccisary to wash/change out the cart filler when changing flavors (i just tried a new flavor and it tastes like ... but i dont know if its the flavor itself or if im doing something wrong)

is there a easy way to tell if the atty is flooded or is that just a trouble shooting tip for when vapor/flavor gets low?

thank you for all of the help and advice ive received so far on this forum and for answering these questions.

The white ring you see is the ceramic pot. The coil has a fiber wick threaded through it and it wicks from the metal(mesh) bridge you mentioned.

The hissing is normal. That's the coil vaporizing the e-juice.

If you hear a gurgling sound when inhaling, it's a good sign the atty is flooded. You can resolve that issue by blowing from the battery end of the atty into a paper towel.

Hope that helps.

Yeah ... Mixed flavors are often *ss. BUT, every once in a while, you'll accidentally create that perfect flavor. Problem is, you won't remember you you did it. LOL

But yes, for best results, wash the filler before changing flavors.

Personally I have about 3-4 flavours on the go through the day (on the desk in front of me right now I have coke 11mg, watermelon 18mg, winston 24mg).. I never change carts or wash filler. If I want a pure flavour I'll stick to one for a few top ups and it washes through after a while. I find that most flavours go alright with each other (for my tastes anyway!).

Normally if I want a hit of a certain flavour I top off the cart right to maximum, then the first few minutes are pretty much that flavour straight. Then as the cart empties the mixed flavour from the bottom wicks through.

Probly not how you're supposed to do things but it works for me :D

so does the bridge heat up or is it just a part of the wicking mechanism?

if there is a thread about all this it would probably save you some trouble to just point me to it.

The bridge does not heat up. It has two primary functions: First, it protects the heating coil indise the tiny ceramic cup (which you referred to as a 'white ring' in your first post. Second, the bridge wicks e-liquid from the cartridge. The material around the bridge is also wrapped around the ceramic cup. The wicking action continues from the bridge to this material surrounding the cup.

There are a few tiny hole around the sides of the cup. When you take a draw, liquid from the mesh is drawn into the ceramic cup where the heating coil is situated.

Below is a photo of a dissected 801 atomizer. The heating coil has been removed, but you can see the mesh around the cup and the small hole in the cup sides.
