Hello, I am new to the vaping scene and made the mistake of buying a kit with out doing any research already so, I held off on buying anything else until I did some more reading. So just a few questions for Imyoursalt and abe, you are the only two I've seen post here from LF, and seem pretty knowledgeable, not only about your products but, vaping in general. And anyone else that my want to chime in, please do. The more info i have the better I believe my first vaping experience will be.

First off, a little back ground to better under stand me and my smoking habits. I started young and have been smoking for 15 years, 29 now. I smoked about a pack a day of Camel filters for most of those years but, I've cut back to a pack every two days now. I want to quit as I am sure most do, the health benefits. I am however one of the few who enjoy smoking lol, thats why it's been a little hard for me to quit. So on to order questions.

I would like to keep my first order as simple as possible and not to costly. I am not even sure yet if the e-cig is for me and would like to not invest to much into the first order. So I was looking to get the Riva 510 lite bundle to start with. It came highly recommended as did your company. I made sure to do some reading on the Riva 510 in this section and came across a few people who seemed to have issues with DOA battery's. Is this still a issue? If so, if I order a single battery along with the lite bundle, what are the odds of it not working also? My issue is not so much that you guy wouldn't replace a bad unit as much so as I want a smooth first run with vaping. So is it a good idea to order a third battery just in-case one of the two in the bundle does not work?

Boge Carto's 510 2.0 Ohm -
I was looking at these and have been told these are the ones to go with for a good TH. I also read that they are ideal for Tobacco juices. Is this true and how much different are they compared to the 510 3.0 Ohm? Coming from Camels I am thinking I will want something that will help provide a good TH. And is it not recommended to use higher heat atties and carto's at all with fruit juices, or the experience just isn't at good?

Atties and Drip tips-
I figured I would go ahead and add these to the deal to, as I have read that some like to drip while others prefer the cartos. So I figured for my first experience with vaping I might as well have both to test. So, like I stated above I am probably going to be a TH kind of guy and these seem to be the atties for this right "EM RIVA 510 LOW RESISTANCE" ? The reason I believe the TH will be important for me is because when I smoke light cigarettes, I am left feeling unsatisfied. So the nicotine is not the only role played in my addiction. I enjoy the harshness of stronger cigarettes.

PG-VG juices
I've read a good deal about both of these and understand that VG is thicker and can be harder on atties and that PG can provide a better TH, so my only real question is what are some of the more popular one that you guys sell? I figured for a first timer I might as well order some different 5ml's to test and try out. I know I would like to try a tobacco flavor and some kind of menthol. Other then that I am pretty much open to anything.

So yeah, I believe that is all of my questions. I am going to wait until Friday to place my order because I am a IT analyst and poor  Thanks to any and all who reply!

Hello and Welcome to the Liberty Flights forum at ECF. It is nice to meet you. Glad you found us. I will leave the equipment & supply questions for others to answer.

I understand your statement about enjoying the smoking experience. So Did I. I bought my first pv with the intentions of using it once in awhile, when smoking was not appropriate or readily available. My equipment arrived April 17, 2010 (almost a year ago!) and that day I smoked my last cigarette. I was one of those people who took to the PV immediately and did not look back.

About 4 weeks into my e-cig experience, I was sitting on the patio with hubby drinking a beer. Both of my little 510 batteries were dead. I had a pack of cigs, so I opened it up and lit one. I almost became ill. I started gagging and hacking and it was terrible. It was the worst thing I've ever tasted. I stomped it out on the patio. My husband started laughing and I couldn't understand why he was laughing at me! That day and that experience proved to both of us that I will Never smoke another cigarette again as long as I live. It proved I was done with cigs forever. I was a 30+yr smoker (over a pack a day) and pv's got me off cigs the same day my equipment arrived.

I've read literally 100's of stories from people here at ECF forums that have had that very same experience. BUT...it does not work that way for everyone. Everyone uses the PV to meet their own needs. Smoking cigarettes is legal, so don't beat yourself up if you continue to smoke a cig or three throughout the day. I believe you will quite cigarettes, but you need to allow your body to do it as it is right for you...not based on someone else's experience. Come here for support and questions. Many people here are more than willing to answer questions and help along the way.

Notes on ordering:
Make sure your e-juice contains a strong enough nicotine level to satisfy you

Make sure you have some e-juice with milder nicotine level so you can switch around, if need be

Make sure you have a couple extra atomizers or cartomizers. You use them, they die, you need them to keep vaping!

Try to order an extra charger for your pv within the next month or so. If your charger dies, how are you going to recharge your pv?

**PV equipment only has a certain lifespan. Some of the equipment lasts a long, long time. Other parts of it (atomizers, cartomizers, chargers, for example) tend to die off quicker. Please keep that in mind as you build your inventory.

Try to find a local vaping meet up group. We have a section here in the ECF forums with groups all over the country. Maybe one will be near you. They are great! You meet other vapers, see different equipment, sample each others juices, and enjoy the company of some like-minded people. Get connected so you have someone close in case of a juice or equipment emergency.

Sorry for the long post. Again I shout out a Welcome to LF forums at ECF. Congratulations on your decision to dump cigs.
Happy Vaping,
Paula

Perfect choice on the Riva 510 Lite bundle! Instead of a 3rd Riva 510 battery, you could really protect yourself and get the eGo PT (Pass-Thru) battery... it has the same 510 threading and allows you to use it while it charges (then you can also unplug it and wander). A bit more flexible.

I can't speak to the DOAs, because I got lucky in all the orders I've made, haven't had one problem yet.

I absolutely love the 2ohm Boges! I do not use tobacco juices at all, and have excellent results with my fruity/sweet juices in the 2ohm. I'm currently enjoying the eGo-T tanks/attys - and the Boges have fallen aside in my 'backup tote' box (still carry with me everywhere)... altho' the T's do mute the flavors somewhat - whereas the Boges were the best flavor/hit yet - 2nd only to dripping

Atties and Drip tips-
I figured I would go ahead and add these to the deal to, as I have read that some like to drip while others prefer the cartos. Definitely a must - as you could use them with the standard attys that come in the bundle as well as grabbing a few LR attys. Might recommend if you get the EM LR 510, get them in a different color than your standards - to help tell them apart easily. I have my Stainless Riva SE dedicated with a steel EM LR atty and drip tip... for those sampling sessions - and then extended testing of some flavors before dedicating a tank or carto to one.

PG-VG juices
I've read a good deal about both of these and understand that VG is thicker and can be harder on atties and that PG can provide a better TH, so my only real question is what are some of the more popular one that you guys sell? If you're up for some sampling, their 5ml bottles are perfectly priced for that! Most folks like 80PG/20VG ratios, but alas - LF's are either/or. I would just grab some that pique your interest (as far as fruity/beverage styles). I haven't touched tobacco flavors since my first order (and passed on the one, think it was USA/Turkish mix, or maybe 777? to a friend who I gave a Riva Lite kit for Xmas). You can always grab multiple mg levels (and varying PG/VG) of the same flavors, and mix & match to your heart's content (aha - perfect use of that LR/drip tip!).

Any way you go, you're sure to get there! ;) Enjoy the ride!

Best of luck to you on your journey!

Thanks for the info. I was unaware that the chargers had a short life span. I was debating ordering a extra just in case I did buy a extra battery but, I think what you posted will be enough alone to buy one. And as for people here being helpful, they have been wonderful so far. I only have one other thread, in the newbie section, and that is how I found out about LF and the Riva. The only thing that stopped me from ordering some stuff this last Friday was, that was kind of what I did before with another company and found out what I had bought was junk pretty much. And I'll admit, it was my own fault. I normally do try and find out as much as possible about the product I am buying, but my first e-cigarette was a impulse buy for sure lol. I will buy the Riva either or, I had just read a few post here though that said there was a bad batch of batteries and some people where having issues. Also I want to make sure for my first order I have everything I need to begin vaping happily for at least a week or two so I can decide if it is for me and what and how much more of something I need to order to keep me going.

Edit:

Thanks Princessa,

Super helpful post. But raises another question. Besides cosmetic differences, are there any other differences between the Riva SE and the lite bundle? I mean device wise? I looked at the specs for both and they seemed the same...?

Just had a look at your order and it seems all good. Although one thing you might like to consider is coming from a different direction.
You are already looking at the gear for mixing so why not take it a step further and consider geting some unflavoured juice at a fairly high strength (e.g. 24mg) and some base solution (PG or VG) and then some flavour concentrates. That way you can make up what flavour you like and at the strength that suits you. There are literally dozens of tutorials on doing this on the net and some excellent ones on L/F's own forum. Just a thought and might save you a few pennies, plus it's a lot of fun doing.

Well, I only got the syringes because I read that it is ideal to use them for first time fills. After added 1-1.5 ml by syringes then I guess it is okay to just add a few drops. Trying to do things right so I don't fry everything the first day lol. I figured though once I try a few flavors and even get an idea of what I might like, then I will step it up to the big boys game and start making my own. Baby steps man, baby steps lol.

Baby steps man, baby steps lol.
I am a recently started vaper and stuck to pre-made liquid for about 4 days.
Then I got hold of PG, VG, Nic juice, some spare bottles and some flavours and haven't looked back since.
I even made my first "mod" on Saturday so I had my own tank for my riva/pass through.

The only limits are your confidence. :vapor:

Hi Matt, that looks like a good order. I really like both my Riva & Ego, and the Boge Cartomizers are my favorite.
Be prepared to have e-juices be kind of hit or miss when you first start out. Taste is so subjective, and you may find that you hate or love a juice today, but totally change that feeling in a week or two!
I was always a menthol smoker, but hated menthol vapes for the first 4 months. Now I really like them. Initially, coffee and sweet flavors tasted better.
Anyway, I hope you like it all right away, cuz it will make quitting much easier! Oh, and by the way - I bought my Rivas 5 months ago and they're still going strong, as is my charger - and you can't beat LF prices.

Good thoughts on the needle - but I think that one is just the needle, not needle & syringe (reading thru some of the reviews)... and you'd probably want the 18ga over 16. I had a tough time getting the smaller 18 carefully and deeper into the carto, but I'm sure that was more me than the needle/carto. The needle + syringe (either the 5ml / 18g for 1.90 or 1ml syringe .71 + 18g needle .63) is what you'd want. I'd just get one (you can wash them), especially since you're just seeing if this is gonna satisfy first. I know I've been thoroughly confused by syringes/needles on every site I've shopped at.

Looks like an interesting mix of juice choices too! Nice range. Since they're all in the PG category, if any are a bit 'strong' or you want to 'weaken' it a bit (flavor and nic), you could grab a bottle of Humco Glycerin USP (the VG) from WalMart for under $3. VG will give more of the vapor, but I'd play with just a drop or two at a time and only in a juice that was way too strong or that I didn't like (to remove the flavor).

I know you're going to love the Riva (and the PT) with the cartos AND the LR atty!

Oh, and your previous question - differences between SE and regular Riva Lite... I think at this point in 'versions' it is ONLY cosmetic. The SE have silver/chrome bands (which was great with the steel batt/cone) instead of the gold-tone. Personally, I think the titanium looks great with the gold band, as did the black. But, since I've become quite the collector (no one can buy just one LoL), I have 'em all!

When you do determine this is going to work for you, I recommend shopping around several different juice vendors as well! You'll most likely end up like me, and find at least one juice you prefer from each of too many vendors! But then, when your taste buds return (and as you go thru different phases and your tastes are all over the place) you're likely to NOT like some you like right off the bat too. Many small samples are best.

You can see several of the vendors I've purchased from in the brochure in my sig ;) Whew, that way I don't have to feel guilty listing them here! There's so much juice out there it isn't funny, and 'cheaper' isn't always better - but those that aren't cheap, too often have sales (like 40-50% off) and THAT is when you grab the big quantities of the flavor(s) you liked from them!

First off.. Thanks Princessa, AND Paula!

Matt,

This is my general recommendation for newbies...
RIVA 510 KIT
BOGE 510 cartos (2ohm for those of us who need a good TH)
5ml syringe w/18 gauge needle (to fill cartos... not necessary, but recommended)
-NOTE: Looks like you only have needles in your basket. a needle isnt much use without the syringe. I also recommend the 18 gauge needle for filling cartos, ans the 16 and 14 can be a little big.
LR 510 atty +drip tip
and about 5 5ml bottles of juice. a couple tobaccos a couple others, and a couple different nicotine densities.

I use cartos, but some people like atties/dripping, etc... this will give you a nice variety of things to try out, and wont leave you stuck with something that doesn't really work for you. I try to impress upon people, that it is like finding your brand all over again. But it's not just a pack of cigarettes you need to pick, it batteries, High Volt, Low Res., cartos/atties, PG/VG, etc... All I mean is that I can tell you what works for me, but you just never know until you give it a try.

You may need to order more juice in a week or two, but this way, you will have already tried a few, and not sunk a bunch of money into it if it turns out vaping isnt for you.

You had questions about high heat atties/cartos an certain flavors.... I get much better flavor from a carto, even the 2ohm than an atty. A carto is just a different system, and there's more to it than just the resistance. In general though, higher heat will tend to mute the flavors of most eliquid.

The LR EM-510 Atty delivers a great TH. these meter around 1.5 Ohm

And for PG/VG juices... I recommend, getting a bottle of the same flavor/density in both PG and VG. then, give it the old Pepsi challenge.

Hope that helps,
Ty

HA! You're welcome, King Tyborg! Looks like we were both replying at the same time! And look at that... you'd almost think I learned from the best or something.

Glad you guys pointed out the needle only issue, I didn't realize that! I think that vaping will be just what I need to finally do away with cigarettes. I've quit in the past cold turkey, the problem was I actually like smoking so would always break down and start again. I think the vaping will help fill that void and keep me off for good.

And again, thanks for all of the excellent advice from everyone. I'll take a little more time to read some more and review my current order before this coming Friday. Make sure I have it fine tuned to my liking.
