A good bit of advice needed.

I recently quit smoking cigarettes and I started doing Hookah on occasions. I'm looking to get out of Hookah completely and start vaping. Recently I've been researching, but I have no clue as to what to buy. Now I have a few things in mind and I wanted to ask some questions.

I was curious if using an iClear 16 with an Ego Twist is a good set up? Also, would I have to buy anything extra besides those and some e-liquid? Also, the e-liquid I'm purchasing is 100% VG and I read somewhere that it's very thick and I shouldn't be using it with that setup. I'm not sure how true that is. Any response helps, and I'm sorry if I sound like a total newbie, but it would be extremely nice to get into the vaping community! :)

Update #1: First four pages were basically just explaining to me everything and me changing my mind on an iClear 16 to use a Mini Protank II with either a vision spinner 1300 or a ego-t 1100.

I definitely think you are making a good choice with the Ego Twist. I also highly recommend the Vision Spinner. Same type of battery, but the Spinner performs better in my opinion. I have an Ego Twist also and it works fine.

I haven't had any experience with the iClears, but love my ProTanks.

VG is very thick. Some vendors, like MountBakerVapor allow you to choose your VG/PG ratios. You can even get a VG liquid mixed with distilled water. The water helps thin the VG down some. You may want to play around with that. Their juices are decent and inexpensive ($4.99 for 15ml) so it would be easy to order a few different liquids to see what works for you.

Welcome to ECF. It's helped me out a lot! Good luck! Keep us posted on what you decide!

That's a fine setup to start with. The only thing you would have to buy are additional heads for the iClear16. The part with the coil, that heats up wears out in 1-4 weeks. I think they are around $2 for the iclear but I am not sure, I have only used EVODs. one 900 mah ego twist, one iclear 16 and a charger should be less than $30, so if the place is looking to charge you much more than that, go somewhere else. I just mention it because I got a kit from a local b&m as a gift and they were seriously over priced, and don't want anyone else to get stung.

I'm looking for something with not a lot of upkeep, since I'm never home and usually out and about most of the time. I'm looking at Protanks right now, I'm not sure if the Protanks are better than iClear or not, but if I would decide to go with the Protanks, would you recommend going with the Protank 2 single coil or the Protank 3 Dual Coil? Also, thanks for welcoming me! :)

The additional heads wear out in 1-4 weeks or the iClear all together? I was browsing and I was thinking about going with a 1000 mah ego twist with the iClear 16 and the charger and my total was around $40. I'm not on a budget, but I'd like to keep it under $100 so $40 isn't bad.

in a warehouse buried near Univille SD
the iClear is a top dual coil polycarbonate clearo - warmer, thicker vapor - more throat hit for me
the protank (I would recommend the mini closer to the same size as iClear and will look better on twist battery) bottom single coil glass clearo - cooler, airier vapor - lighter throat hit

polycarbonate - some eliquids will "crack" (melt) this materiel ie: cinnamon, citrus, cola flavors
glass tank - good with any eliquid

Protank3 - no personal experience due to it is brand new

Thank you so much for explaining that to me. I'm definitely going to look into Protanks a bit more!

Get at least 2 of everything (back ups and then back ups for the back ups when you can). I use 100% VG in a protank and an ego twist without much problem. You will need extra heads, and learn to clean them, they will need it frequently with the VG. Doesn't take long and isn't hard so it won't slow you down any.

So when you say extra heads, I'm looking now and seeing a five pack of 2.5 ohm heads and a five pack of 1.8 ohm heads. I'm guessing the heads depend on something? And would the 2.5 be better or is it all just preference?

The heads will wear out in a week to 4 weeks is what they were saying, in regards to your question

I have an ego twist, and recently bought an ego upgrade (passthrough), because I wanted to continue to vape while it was charging. I've been eyeing up that mvp2 from 101vape for 39.99, will probably buy it in a week or so lol. It's got some neat features, like an ohm tester, puff counter, huge battery, passthrough ability, people say they charge their phones from it if they have to.

I guess some people may not like the boxiness of the mvp to use all the time, or when out and about. When I get it I suppose I'll plan to use it as much and in as many places as my ego. But, I still don't have it yet, so I can't even vouch on if I would like it. It seems to have good reviews from what I've read though.

It really doesn't mater all that much to me at least, I'm sure others will have their opinion, but as long as you have a vv (spinner or twist) you can just adjust to whatever ohm head you have. I have 5 that I have been using for about 6 months, from the 1.8 to the 2.5, I don't really even look at that when I put them in any more, just start low and adjust up till it taste good.

Is there actually a passthrough upgrade for a 1000 mah ego twist?

Thanks for clarifying that, I figured that was how it worked!

I think the protank 3 coil is not compatible with the others.
The coils/heads/atomisers on the protanks 1 and 2 seem to be a kind of standard; I'd go with the protank 2.

I like my protank II minis, and if you want some info on how to rebuild the coils, there is a link to RiP Trippers video in my blog (first entry) ..

I also noted under that some extra tools I snagged to make doing coils easier.

i16s are plastic I believe and while that can be ok for some juices it can also be a mess if you use the wrong kinds in em

its like Jim pointed out already - Pyrex are good for any kinda juice. Stock Kanger heads can work, but I found out (quickly when I used sweet juices that really gummed them up) they can suck after you really use em.

Rebuilt coils/wicks are a lot better vapor producer, imo.

The heads, the part with the wicks inside the iClear 16 wear out, not the actual iClear 16. I would not buy 2.5 ohm replacments, that's pretty high resistance for an ego twist. I would stick with 1.8-2.2ish. In my, limited experience, I find that fresher flavors, like fruits and citrus do better at 1.5-1.8 ohms, it doesn't take as much energy to get the coil hot while richer flavors like tobacco, vanilla and chocolate come through more at the 2.0-2.2 ohm range. I have no idea if this is just my taste or a widely accepted thing. Either way 1.8 or 2.0 will work well regardless of what juice you use.

In all honesty you are probably going to end up with 3 or 4 tanks pretty quickly if you find you enjoy vaping. When I first started I would have called anyone who told me that crazy. I mean I smoked three different brands of cigarettes over 12 years, so I figured I'd find a juice and just use that one all the time. But the flavors are great, and you might like one during the day, and a different one at night, and it's easier to just spend $6 for tank than trying to refill a tank that you just had some vanilla tobacco in with frosty strawberry. The heads hold onto the flavor for a bit, so you can end up with a delicious mix or a disgusting mash up, until you run enough of the new juice through the wicks and head. The point of all this, don't get too hung up on specific recommendations, everyone had their preference, as long as it has replaceable heads it's fine. If you want to start out with the iclear, just be mindful and know that menthol, cinnamon or citrus may cause it to become unusable. And then after the first week or two if you decide you want to try some evods and a mini protank, or aspire BDC, you are only looking at a $6-$15 each outlay.

And if you are the least bit handy and have fully functional hands and eyes you can easily rebuild coils for the evod or protank mini at around $0.25 or less a pop. It might be possible on the iclear as well, but I don't have any so I havent looked into it.

You can put the heads from the protank 2 into the protank 3, but protank 3 heads only fit in the protank 3. So it's cool that you can use your left over protank 2 heads in your protank 3, but sort of cheap that you can't just use the new heads in a protank 2. They really want you to buy the protank 3!

I would recommend the ProTank 2 or the ProTank 2 mini. The ProTank 3 is their first jab at dual coil, and while some people are really enjoying it, they have some serious leaking issues that I've been reading about. I say the PT2's are a good choice to start out with. I hear a lot of good stuff about iclears, though...just no experience with them. Not sure if it's made of glass, but the ProTanks are glass and won't crack or melt with certain juices like plastic tanks can and will.

How often would I have to rebuild coil's if you don't mind me asking? The whole coil replacing thing seems like such a pain, is it all that hard?

I'm definitely looking that I can try various different flavors in, without much worry and that makes me want to steer away from the iClear a little bit and go with the Protank II. But if you don't mind me asking, if I were to go with a Protank II, would I want to buy the one with a driptip? And what exactly does the drip-tip do? Does it make more vapor or? Probably a very newbie question.

I would recommend the ProTank 2 or the ProTank 2 mini. Protank II it is then. I'm trying a variety so I need something to handle all the different kinds.
