It is continuing instruction, that's one of the things I love about it, there's always a new angle and something else to learn.

I never got any good at divination with the symbols but love seeing them in philosophy, psychology, spiritualism, metaphysics and such. They really help to broaden the mind and create a healthier life I find.

The more we discuss views on them the better we are to connect with fresh ideas too. I'm not too used to collaboration but am really enjoying the company on this thread.

The Devil

At the moment I have the Devil card because I have feelings of bondage and guilt taking care of my elderly mother with dementia. I know she cannot help it and needs me, but I hate lack of freedom. I resent the fact that my brother and two sisters do not help me share the burden. Brother in California...had his pay cut by 35%, going through divorce. Sister in Ohio is an alcoholic. Another sister here nearby is too involved in church, doing "God's work" as she puts it. She comes here to take Mom to church if Mom 's up to it or lay her hands on Mom, prays and prays then takes off. She does not help me with dirty works like bathing Mom, wash her hair, cook for her, see that she takes her meds, do laundry. Mom is cancer survivor when she had bladder removed so she wear pee bag. Very tough on me because sometimes it leaks and wets the bed and carpet, I'd be up all night cleaning after her, calming her down as Mom tends to be tearful, ashamed. I know it's not Mom's fault and I do love her. I think I resent the fact I am not getting help and support I need from my siblings. Also where are her friends who claimed to be her friends? What about members of church she goes to? :(

Big hugs for you Bryn, you're doing a great job caring for your mum.

It makes me sad when I hear of people claiming to be 'godly' who contribute nothing worthwhile and preach to people who do good things. Some religious people are nothing but hypocrites. I think that the most 'godly' people are the ones who behave in loving, caring ways no matter what their affiliations are.

Ok, this leads nicely onto the next symbol. I'm going to tell you a little about my understanding of this one and you can try to guess which card it represents.

Step through:

This is the gateway to heaven.

It's harmony - using love to balance the understanding of creation with the will to create. Love with wisdom.

Love in its most universal sense - the law of everything, the glue that binds everything together. Not specifically romantic love although that's covered too.

In Thelema doctrine 'love is the law, love under will'. I've thought about this a lot and can find no flaw in the reasoning. Love or the idea of detached benevolence is a central aspect for most successful belief systems.

So, harmony - love with wisdom, which card do you think this represents?

My guess would be that it presents Ace of Cups (Heart)

Am I right? I will look into it soon.

Thanks, Kate, for hugs. It's nice to know there's someone out there who truly understands. Lots of people who think going to church, praying, throwing money at those TV preachers, etc. is enough and will guarantee them heaven, but actually..doing real work is spiritual and provides true spiritual growth. I do vent then feel better afterwards. :)

on edit:
