Greeting to all.

Been vaping for going on 3 weeks, very much enjoying it, however, yep theres a "however", lately I have a very strange feeling in my mouth, tongue & throat.
My tongue is well the onlt way to explain it is it feels like I have eaten a ton of sunflower seeds, or a ton of popcorn with tons of salt, do you know that feelin???? (gosh I hope so), and well I can't explain the feeling in my throat, but the feeling goes into my ear drums,(like when you have a cold) so somethings up, and I'm pretty sure it has to do with the pg/vg. Most of my juice is 80/20, but I will admit that some I really don't know the equation, but I have bought from.... My freedom smokes, vapor for life, Msr. T, Strictly ejuice. Can you help? Oh I enhale directly to throat, cuz otherwise I get zero throat hit.
Thanks

It might be the high PG or it could be the flavorings too. Order a small size of all VG juice and if it goes away, you'll know what it was. Some ppl have to go with 50/50 or 30/70 blends also- they don't have to give up PG entirely to stop the side effects.

Some flavorings can cause that too- specifically cinnamon:)

Without knowing what kind of pv you are using, my only guess is that it's the way you are inhaling. Inhaling directly to my lungs gave me a major sore throat. Pulling the vapor into my mouth and *then* inhaling fixed that problem.

If you don't like the TH you get by pulling into your mouth and then inhaling, you could try a stronger nic juice or juices with more pg in them. I will admit, TH is not that important to me, and in fact, chokes me if it's too strong. So although my method of inhaling works for me, it might not work for you.

Ya, I was going to say drink more liquids too. I know I can't handle to much PG, it makes my throat sore but I've not here anything about going up into your ear either. I use mostly 100% VG now. I do have some juices that are 80vg 20pg and thats seems alright. I can't vape it all day but I can vape it on and off and be fine. There are many helpful people on this forum and I'm sure someone will come along and help more than I did :)

Thanks to those that replied,
To answer a fwe questions, I have a Riva 510 and an ego that I use. All my juice is either 18 or 24mg, so I thinks thats pretty high already.
Are what you saying is that I should use more VG than PG? Or all VG, I thought I read on here that the "preferred choice by majority was a higher pg than vg, Can you please explain to me what pg does and what vg does in laymens terms.
On a side note I smoked newport lights before getting into vaping.

PG is the thinner of the two liquids. It lets the flavor come through a little better and adds to the throat hit (TH.)
VG is thicker and adds not only to vapor production, but to the sweetness of the juice. VG can also mute some flavors, especially in higher percentages.
I usually have either a 50/50 or a 60PG/40VG mix in my juice. I'm not a big fan of throat hit, but I love vapor and those two mixes provide lots of it.
I'm using both 24mg and 18mg juices. The 24mg is what I use when I have cravings, which are becoming less and less. The 18mg is what I usually vape most of the day.

pg is higher in throat hit/ vg has more vapor. Vg is vegetable glycerin. Pg is propylene glycol. A small percentage of people are actually allergic to pg, and there are a slightly larger number of people who might be considered sensitive to it. Since you need throat hit, adding menthol would increase the throat hit of your juice, even if you switched to 100vg or 80vg/20pg. Go to VaporBomb and order some samplers. They allow you to purchase 5ml size juices and specify the vg/pg ratio as well as the nicotine level.

Either PG or VG are used as the base of e-liquids, the stuff that flavorings and nicotine get put into.

They are both what are called humectants, attract water to them -- the vapor you see when you exhale is mainly the water in the air in your mouth/lungs that has been attracted to the vaporized PG and VG.

Generally more PG = more throat hit, more VG = more vapor. More nicotine also equates to more throat hit.

Some people have sensitivity to PG, and others don't do so well with VG.

For PG-sensitive types sometimes they just need to go to lower PG, like 50% PG and 50% VG and all is well. Others need to go all the way to zero PG juices, due to high sensitivity.

If you have some juice in hand, you can pick up Glycerin USP at local pharmacies and try cutting your liquid -- it will dilute the nicotine level a bit, and the flavor, but also reduce the PG %. Glycerin USP is available at most pharmacies, should clearly state that and the ingredients should be only 1 item Glycerin, USP 99.5% (or higher). The bottle may actually be labeled "Glycerin USP Skin Protectant".

If you start with 24 mg 80%PG/20% VG, and dilute it by using 2 drops of Glycerin USP to 8 drops of your existing liquid you will get something that's about 19 mg strength and about 64% PG/36% VG.

If you are even faintly uncomfortable doing this experiment, just order some low PG or zero PG liquid -- there's a VG Social Forum on ECF where you can see who sells such things.

"Preferred choice" is because for people who don't have PG sensitivity they find it to be a nice balance of throat hit and vapor. I can vape up to 100% PG no problem, and likewise I make some 0 PG stuff, no problem, but find my "sweet spot" right now is about 70% PG, 30% VG.

Hi 27fan.

The salty tongue/taste is a sign of dehydration. Done that a few too many times:facepalm:. Drink, vape, drink, repeat. I've also had a sensation of my ears being full, the type of pressure you get when you have a head cold. For me, it was from hitting my PV too hard too often. I also learned to inhale into my mouth first, then lungs. Directly into the lungs is just too much for me.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all knew the exact PG/VG ratio we tolerate perfectly before we ordered the juice? :)

Ya know, something just dawned on me, could it be raw juice causing this????? If I puff to hard juice comes thru the tip & gets on my tongue, which could then spread to my throat?

Vaping is dehydrating because both PG and VG are hygroscopic, meaning that they pull moisture out. The sore throat is normal when you first start vaping, but you need to make sure that you're drinking plenty of water. That will help the sore throat go away faster. Getting juice in your mouth could be because you're drawing too hard. Think of inhaling like sipping fine wine. Take slow, gentle drags. If you suck on it like you're drinking a milkshake through a straw it's not going to work as well.

I second this info. In addition to the feeling of "fullness" in my throat and ears, I also start experiencing that kinda "pasty" feeling in my mouth. While I haven't specifically linked it to PG or VG, I do vape almost constantly, it seems, and I know that is a contributing factor. I particularly notice these feeling later in the day or evening...a dead giveaway to me.

Try the things suggested and see if you can isolate it for yourself. Good luck.
