Hello, i wanted to start DIY, but i am confused at how to get the nic levels to what i want, i want to have my juices at about 10 mg of nic.so would i buy 18mg of nic solution and cut that in half with the 0 nic pg/vg im not sure. and then i guess i just buy some flavorings and experiment, but also i am not sure what all the abbreviations mean next to the flavorings.please can someone give me some insight on how to start. thanks

Okay, first off, you don't have to try and do all of the math by yourself, there are calculators out there (like this: E-Juice / E-Liquid Calculator), though, it doesn't hurt to check it yourself just to make sure.

You can start off with an 18mg base if you'd like. The thing to remember is, the more concentrated the nic base is, the more you'll get out of it. 36mg base will obviously last you twice as long as the 18mg. However, it's important to note that the higher in nic you get, the more dangerous it could be if it comes in contact with your skin, animals, children etc. I think I remember someone once saying, "I treat DIYing with nicotine like I treat a loaded gun." Great advice! Use gloves, and have a work place set up (I just place paper towels down on my desk here).

Okay, so, the abbreviations next to the flavorings are the company in which that flavor derives from. For example: TFA is The Flavor Apprentice (or The Perfume Apprentice, same thing). FA is FlavourArt, CA is Capellas, FW is FlavorWest, SM is Seedmans, and so on.

On your first purchase, try and purchase/have as many bottles as you do flavorings. That way, you can test each flavor individually before trying to mix (optional, of course). I would invest in a couple of syringes, at least one for each bottle it will be touching (For example: if you're using PG, VG, and a nic base, I would get at least 3 syringes with blunt tips). You can use syringes for flavorings as well, but, I just use 1ml pipettes. It's all up to you.

When you start mixing, start off at low %'s (General rule of thumb). You can always add more flavoring if it's weak, but you can't really remove it if it's too much.

Anyways, that's what I got so far. Good luck, and feel free to ask specifics.

What Levitas said...especially the bottle thingy....
You can NEVER have too many bottles.

My small input...
I use 100mg nic because it makes the math so much easier to work with, and its really the best $$value$$...
But safety first and foremost. Never diy anything you're not comfortable with.

Calculators are great, but not perfect. Always double check the math..

Not an earth-shattering reply..I know....but if you continue to come back here for info/help you can't go wrong.
Tons of great peeps to help you out.

Dont mean to hijack, but i think its too much to start my own thread for a small question where im really co fused at. Can someone give me an example of a mix that starts at 110ml pg 36mg going down to 12mg but i want my solution to be at 60%pg and 40%vg for taste and vapor. Im getting confused on how i should cut the pg together w the vg. If it was straight pg i get it but my vg doesnt have nic. Help? Thanks.

Hac, napdog linked the calculator that I would use, but the math is easy. Just remember mg really means mg/ml.

I want 10ml of 12mg/ml so I know, 10ml * 12mg/ml =120mg is how much nicotine needs to be in the final solution.

I have 36mg/ml so 120mg / 36mg/ml = 3.3ml

I want 60/40 PG/VG in my 10ml so 6ml is PG and 4ml is VG.

I need 6ml PG - 3.3ml Nic-in-PG = 2.7ml of no-nicotine PG
I add 4ml VG and I have 12mg/ml at 60/40. Run the calculations in reverse and it checks.
