So my wife and I are cleaning out the house that we live in, it was her aunts old house and all her things are still here. So as we are cleaning I clean out the stand the tv is on. And BAM I'm staring at a 1960's rca victrola. My heart just jumps cause I sold a "red seal" victrola for thousands of dollars in the past. But here is where my day went wrong. Someone removed the radio/disc player/record player from it. And it is now worthless. So ill say one thing and one thing only. Please and I mean please don't take apart any old school vintage furniture apart, you could be sitting on a gold mine.

Now I'm a bit down from this. On the other hand I found 14 large pill bottles full of late 1800 to early 1900 coins. So I guess it was a decent morning thus far.

If the case is in decent condition, there's usually $omeone looking for one to replace their damaged one!

Reminds me of all da ol' WWI/WWII rifles that were modded for sport hunting...

As a former antique restorer and salvage guy, I can relate. But it sounds like you had a good day after all! Those coins must be worth something.

A hint for those with old furniture: if you don't know what you're doing, DON'T try to fix it yourself! I wish I had a nickel for every time I had to tell a client that the price was tripled because before I could do any restoration I'd have to UNdo an earlier repair where some fool used Elmer's glue or worse yet, nails.

Once I heard a story about a guy who bought a house in rural Italy after he retired. So he moved there and one day decided to build a proper fence for his house and to do it alone, since he didn't had anything much else to do. When he was digging he found a really perfectly preserved gold coin, but instead of calling the archeologists to dig through his yard he decided to finish the fence and take the coin.
After some time, since the coin was really pretty and obviously old he just took his electric drill and made a hole in the coin so that he could carry it on a chain..... well it turned out that undamaged coin like this one could go as much as 100 000 $ since no one had ever found one and a coin with a hole in it was going for araund 5000$ .

I am not sure how much of the story is true :D , but it puts in a nice way, the noution that before you break something (or drill it ) you should probably consult experts in advance :D

When I moved to Europe, I gave each of my 3 daughters some items I received when my grandfather passed away. Each one has expressed an interest in the type of "gift" I chose.
One of these gifts was an ENORMOUS stamp collection-nearly 100,000 stamps in all. None were newer than 1960 but among all the albums were 2 which were PUBLISHED in 1860, ( meaning every stamp in them was older than 1860 !) Almost all the pages were filled in and the stamps were in fine or better condition.
I had told her if she became uninterested in the collection, to pass it on to a member of MY family or simply give it back to me.
A month ago I was told that she gave it to my EX-WIFE, as reimbursement for a loan
Am wondering what to as this is totally unacceptable. cambriolage maybe?
