A little rant & rave about smoking in front of B&M stores.

I was at my favorite B&M store getting some juice and I saw the owners of the store standing around smoking cigarettes. Not the employees, but the owners. Now I don't care if someone who owns or works at a vape shop also smokes but doing it right in front of the store just seems disrespectful to the customers. The first time I thought it was a fluke, but now it seems to be every single time I go over there the owners are hanging out smoking i front.
I stopped going to that store, maybe I'm overreacting and this is a common thing but it just rubbed me the wrong way.
Any thoughts?

I went to a B+M once where going in, the cars out front reeked of "other stuff". While I was there, one of the sales guys went out; he was sitting in his car as I left, and the very strong renewed aroma was almost overpowering.

I was surprised, this is a (small) chain with a very large online presence.

But that's not the only reason I won't go back. Shame, as there are VERY few B+M's here, surprisingly.

I personally wouldn't give it a second thought. I was them for 45 years. Who am I to look down my nose at them.

True. Most of us were smokers at one point. Maybe because it's a vape shop owner smoking cigs in front of his store? Then again he can do what he wants. If it means the potential loss of some customers, then so be it. I don't know ;p

Seriously?

I mean, come on man, one of the things I hated most about ex-smokers before vaping was ever heard of were the ones who were vehemently sanctimonious about it.
A certain fair amount of Ex-smokers were the worst jerks on the planet when it came to smoking issues, claiming outrageous crap similar to, "I can smell a cigarette a mile away."

Are you going to tell me now that a lot of you who quit and are now vaping, are going to be like that and act as if your brains have leaked out of your heads,

Live and let live brother. A "That's not cool bro" would probably suffice.

I hear and feel what you're saying, but have you asked them why they're smoking? Most of us have struggled to stay quit at one time or another, they might be too. It is certainly your prerogative to spend where you want, but there is another side to this story and without hearing it, I wouldn't be so quick to discount them.

Honestly these days I do find that I'm sensitive to cigarette smoke, which I find ironic considering I smoked a PAD of Marlboro Reds for over a decade. Still, as long as they are outside and not blowing it in my face I wouldn't be bothered.

Really?

Would not bother me in the least. Still pisses me off they passed all the anti smoking laws and kicked smokers out of bars and restaurants. Not like there were no other choices to eat and drink for the busy bodied self important spoiled little babies.

I absolutely believe in your right to shop where you want for whatever the reason.

The smell of cigarette smoke reminds me to be grateful that I don't smoke anymore. But, people smoking doesn't bother me in the least. Owning a vape shop doesn't make it any easier to quit. His store...he can smoke there if he wants to. From a marketing perspective, its probably not the best decision he could make, but I'll defend his right to do it.

Seriously? So you are judging these owners by them smoking outside their store. I am just dumbfounded by this.

Yet vapers want to whine when the anti vaping people get upset when vapers vape inside/ouside a building?

This is just ...... I am at a loss for words. Society is in the toilet.

Yes I am harsh because this is utterly ridiculous.

If I owned a shop (I don't) and still smoked (I don't), I'd have a hard time being around my own shop simply because I now have a better appreciation for just how invasive the smell of a smoker is.

Do I care if people smoke, nope not at all. We all have our particular vices, enjoy them as long as you can.

I'm not sure its a good idea considering the main draw is people who want to be former smokers, but I suppose there are folks who are predominantly dual users and that's fine too. Just one more vice to stack on the many others.

I'd have to see the folks in person before I would say if I'd become a regular customer or not. I tend to buy from folks I like, it might just be a battery or some wire, but I like to support people I like rather than people I don't want to even want to know their names.

Well I don't see where the OP is judging the shop owners right to smoke. In fact the opposite was said, but this is what the ANTZ do when they twist your words around. The OP stated they don't care if the owner smokes, just do it in a more appropriate place. It's the same message that vapers should respect.

doesn't bother me one way or the other, folks smoke in all kind of places, some vape to try to cut back on ciggies and can't kick it, some have someone with them that smoke and they vape (as I've observed at our local B&M) and some of the "funny smell" too but that's EVERYWHERE, I can't drive behind a certain artsy grocery store that I don't smell that *lol* but that's me, I'm pretty easy going.

to each their own.

This is a interesting topic I can see both sides or the argument here but in the end who is to say you have to open a vape shop with the intention to help people quit smoking usually people open businesses to make money so I really don't see a problem with it but I can understand why it might bother someone and not care to go back.
