I'm having an issue with my cupti. With a long pull, I get a burnt cotton taste at the end. I tried switching to tc mode to keep it from overheating, but it will do the same thing. I had set it to 420 degrees, maybe too hot, but I saw a youtube reviewer recommend that temp. So, for now I'm just using wattage mode at around 30, anything higher and I get the burnt cotton taste. I started with a Kanger Subvod, and never had this problem, so I'm at a loss. I wanted a stronger hit, so I got the cupti. Any suggestions? I've replaced the coil twice already in just a few days.

What resistance head are you using?
The different resistance & wire type heads will require different settings to work well & prevent burning.
30w may be too high if you're using the 1.5Ω head or restrict the airflow.

You have to select the appropriate wire type mode to match the wire type of the head when using a temp control.
Do not use Ni or Ti in watt mode.

In another thread you said the display was flashing check battery, what battery are you using? name brand & any markings.

Did you read the user/instruction manual it came with?

I'm using the clocc 0.5 ss coil. Three of them so far, and Efest IMR 18650-3000mah high drain batteries. The temperature mode "check battery" problem went away when I tightened up the chimney. I only had it snug before, because I was concerned about overtightening, but it stopped saying "check battery" when I tightened it up. However, even in t.c. mode, I get the burnt taste at the end. I could lower the temp, but I'll lose the strong hit. Does the battery sound like the right one for the Cupti?

With sub Ω resistances it takes quite a bit of airflow coming through the head to prevent burnt tastes.
Getting a 'burnt taste at the end' could be from reduced inhale strength near the end of the inhale, pg/vg ratio, nic mg/ml, using overly flavored or sweetened liquids etc...
But, if it still happens in TC mode could be the liquid in the tank is tainted from scorching / burning the wicking material.
The settings may be too aggressive for the liquid you're using.
After the wicking is scorched / burnt nothing will fix it, time to prime & install new head.

Always prime a new / unused head, allow to sit in a full tank for at least a few minutes to ensure it is saturated. With a new head always reduce temp / power for the first 1/4 or so tank and slowly increase power/temp to prevent scorching/burning the wicking material.

When you replace the head are you pressing yes when it asks ‘New Coil" ?
Make sure you use SS heads in SS mode, not Ni, NiCr or Ti mode.

There are better choices for batteries, but as long as you stay below 50w - 60w you should be okay.

Thanks, for the reply, and great info. Yes, I'm pressing the positive button for a new atomizer, and keeping the airflow wide open. I'm sure I'm doing all of the things you listed as far as priming the coil as well. It seems to be doing well at 34 watts, so I'll just stick to that for now. Still so happy to be off cigarettes for 5 weeks now (after 25 years,) and never looking back! Thank you again for your kind help.
