I have been meaning to write something about this for a little while now, but have been busy. I believe I have developed a method for maintaining proper draw, performance and juice capacity for many refills of a cartomizer. I have tried this on both standard KR808 carts and premiums, with good success. The premiums, especially when paired with the "easy flow" auto batteries (it seems like they were designed for eachother) taste new each time, and don't seem to get that difficult "refilled cartridge" draw most of the time. In addition, I have not burned up a single cartomizer since doing this - and trust me I have tried on purpose. I stopped even looking after tearing apart 3 bone dry cartos that had minimal discoloration on the cotton wrapper.
So here we go, it is really easy:
Step 1: Wash your cartos in whatever manner you choose. I soak in ISO over night and then rinse out under warm water. Sometimes I just rinse If I need a quick fill.
Step 2: Get some disposable "proxabrushes" from the oral hygene aisle. Get the smallest ones. Example here: Amazon.com: Butler G-U-M Proxabrush Travler Nylon Coated Wire Tapered Head - 61614RN, Carded - 1 Ea: Health & Personal Care
Step 3: Firmly but gently brush out the inside of the atomizer end, and then brush out the inside of the batting from the mouthpiece side. You will see that even after washing, a bit of dark residue come out on the brush. This crap gums up the cotton, preventing it from wicking juice from the polyfil. The wire coil gets covered in gunk as well and has to get much hotter to vaporize the liquid, resulting in poor performance. This process also helps keep the "air hole" nice and open.
Step 4: Instert a 2 ince piece of insulated 22 guage wire into the battery end, and gently push it all the way through to the other end, so that the carto is threaded onto the wire. It should seal the atomizer end pretty well, and also prevent juice from flooding into the air channel as you fill. Drop in about 25-30 drops, 5 drops at a time until the juice no longer absorbs. Sometimes dry juice residue get stuck in the polyfil and the clean carto will only take 10-20 drops. When this happens I slide a pin down between the metal and the polyfill to allow the juice to flow to the bottom.
Step 5: When you are confident that you cannot fit any more juice in, remove the wire. If you overfilled and the juice floods the atomizer DO NOT WICK IT OUT BY TWISTING A PAPER TOWEL AND SHOVING IT IN THE BATTERY END!!!!!!! this can cause the cotton to become too dry, and is a quick way to mysteriously have a freshly filled carto burn up. Instead, use the proxbrushes as before to gently pull the excess juice out of the air channel and atomizer.
Since i have been doing this I have had good luck refilling my cartridges 10+ times. I think the proxabrushes and the wire plug are important for keeping the air flow and juice wicking properties consistent. Let me know what you guys think.
