Long time snuff user here trying to get off...

I picked up a few Blu e-cigarettes at the local grocery store and tried one yesterday - I got a smell from it that reminded me of a carnival/amusement park/haunted house where they have that fake smoke in a room so that you can't see (that's the best way I can describe it...kind of a smoked plastic kind of smell.) I didn't find it pleasant. Still might work to help me quit chewing...question I have is do all e-cigarettes/vaporizers have that similar smell?

As a totally new person to this it's a little daunting looking at the forums and trying to figure out what's best to buy.

No. Blu are unique. They are as bad as they are expensive.

A proper e-cig can give off as nice a smell or taste as you could wish.

My Ma told me "e-cigs stink".... (her friends use these plastic placebo sticks and still smoke)...

So, to convince her otherwise, I took some real e-cigs to her the other day. One Vanilla Custard, one Raspberry Twist and one Lime and Lemongrass.

Hi

There is a possibility you got one with a dried out cartridge. Unfortunately that kind of thing seems to happen with Blu quite often. If that's the case what you may be picking up on is a taste of the polyfill that is supposed to be soaked with liquid getting singed/burned when it's heated.

I know this is new for you, but does it seem like it's putting out a decent amount of vapor? If it's hardly putting out anything at all then... dried out cartridge.

I purchased one disposable blu tobacco flavor e-cig. It was my first try at vaping to see if I could do this. I didn't get that type of flavor though. It was ok and had a nice little throat hit and made me think I could do this.

I still smoked while I used the blu. I then hung out here and purchased some ego c twist 1000 mah batteries and some starter tanks.

From there I stepped up a couple of times to where I now use a dna30 cloupor clone and kayfun, taifun style tanks. It certainly gets much better than a blu e-cig for sure!

The hardest thing for me was finding the right juice. Taste is subjective and though a buddy might love a certain juice, you may hate it. Grab some sample sizes or go to a vape store and sample some juice to see what you like. So so many options, take your time and ask away and search the forum. Before long you will be up and going with a decent setup.

The Blu regular tobacco flavor is kind of weak. When I started out with those, I'd get plenty of carts that had no taste.

The vapor is similar in many ways to what you get out of a fog machine, so if that cart was light on juice, or kind of old, that may explain the flavor

You can try the other blu flavor carts, and you might get a better idea of how good an e cig can taste, but I remember them being rather inconsistent. Generally speaking, blu is an overall poor representation of what vaping has to offer. The best recommendation is to find a nicer vaporizer. Even if you're stuck on the cig a like, there's better options out there.

Hi and welcome to ECF. I tried those Blu's a few times and I felt I needed a cig or a dip after puffing on them. Then I talked to a buddy of mine who vaped and one day on my way to work stopped at a gas station and seen an ecig with a USB charger and a small bottle of juice for $25. This was last July. With this ecig I was able to quit a 40 year smoking habit in 4 days and I quit dipping also (cope and grizzly).
There is tons of flavors to vape to chose from and a gas station that sells the ecig kit like I have also sells juices for you to try. Pick a flavor and give it a try.

Good luck on quiting the dip.

Thank you all for the replies.

So, do all e-cigs/vaporizers have the fog machine/haunted house smell/taste? Or is it just the cheap/gas station Blu-type ones? Hoping that the higher end stuff doesn't smell/taste like this...think I'm going to order the Smoktek eGo kit and a few of their flavors, or try to find a shop in Pittsburgh that sells these things.

The CEO of the company I work for is heavily into vaping but he was forced to quit so he gave me around $500+ of his vape stuff. Because I told him i was trying to quit smoking. Blucigs were among them, I tried it once and gave it away. The person probably tossed it after trying it since the battery doesn't really hold a long enough charge.

While I can't be certain you don't have some crazy sensitive sense of taste that will pick that out of anything, I'm familiar with that taste on the blu cigs. I think you just need something with more/better flavor.

Head over to the e-liquid forum. You'll see a lot of companies mentioned often. Those are generally reputable companies.

If you have a local vapor shop, go check it out and see if they'll let you sample flavors. Look for things that sound tasty. It's hard to find a tobacco replacement.

If you really want to chase a tobacco flavor, on found Halo Tourque 56 to be fairly close

Do you have a set up to vape with? Or are you just using the blu right now?

Absolutely not.

Tastes can vary hugely; and even the same flavor in one setup tastes different in another setup.

My first tries last year at ecigs was with some disposables, and I used those for quite a while before I realised the ones I was getting was the menthol version! I hate menthol.

You got to try out a few flavors and find one that you can work with.

I feel ya when it comes to the Blu Cigs. I purchased a kit over a year ago and failed miserably. Once I found a satisfying vape I have not smoked since. A good setup is paramount to your success. I would not invest too much though because as you gain experience and learn your preferences more purchases will ensue. I noticed a very nice 900mah 4.2 volt kit that was just released that has a decent battery, great tank, and costs $55.00 for the kit and includes free shipping. After that all you would need to do is find some juice that suits your taste (maybe a few small bottles to taste test) and you are good to go. I will include a link below to the web page. They are US based and have a few retail locations in there state of origin. Others may have recommendations too. Good luck.

IMHO, Blu is terrible. When I first started vaping, I got Blu and a couple of flavors, thinking I would use it at work. I still smoked. They taste simply terrible to me. I personally would steer clear of gas station juice as well. Some of that stuff is as awful as Blu. I would go to a local shop that has some loaded atomizers filled with juice to try. There are little "codoms" you put over the tip for safety, but it'll give you an idea what the stuff tastes like. Also, it will show you how some of the different batteries feel and work.

Good luck!
