Hello, everybody--

So, I'm a musician and was backstage at a venue in Detroit smoking a gas station disposable intermittently between chews and smokes since tobacco was prohibited. A musician from another band asked what I was puffing on; I told him, and then he turned me on to his setup--one that required refilling, recharging, yada, yada. I have some friends who have been using tank systems and mods for a few years, but I always thought they'd be a pain. Anyway, this musician sold me on the idea of trying something other than disposables, so I went to the website he told me about the next day and ordered a very basic kit: slim 808 batteries with small clearomizers, plus some juice. It came in a couple of days later, and my desire for tobacco died after the first puff.

It's been a month and I've made positive and negative observations along the way.

Positive:

- I no longer spend $350 on tobacco per month: 2 cans of chew per day, 2 packs of cigarettes per week, and disposable e-cigs when I couldn't chew or smoke.

- I'm no longer hacking and my inner lip is smooth again.

- And the rest: No more bottles of dip spit laying around, no smoke odor, hygiene is altogether better, and my expenses are way down.

Negative, and there is only one:

- When I went to a vapor shop and showed the owner what I've been using, he laughed. And as I've looked further into gear, there seems to be a type of phallic envy when it comes to vaping devices. I don't know. I mean, I have the desire to get a better setup for the sake of having a device that holds a longer charge, that has a greater level of longevity, and that has an aesthetic appeal, however, I don't want to be a gear head and get all Crocodile Dundeee on people and say, "That's not a mod; THIS is a mod." :) I've already been a gear head with music and recording gear before, so my hope is that I don't fall in love with shiny things that sustain my addiction.

Anyway, my name is Scott and I look forward to mingling with you all.

Welcome and it sounds like you are on your way. As long as you are off stinkies and the set up is doing what you want it to do, then don't get caught up in the 'mine is better than yours' stuff. The whole point of ecigs is to replace/quit the analogs(cigs). There are several types of devices, if you are looking to upgrade to a longer charged ecig. All kinds of box mods are available if you don't want what you refer to as a phallic symbol. Check out some different vendors and their wares. There is a link at the top of each page that can take you to those who participate here at ecf. Look for the forum suppliers link.

Good luck and happy vaping.
:)

Welcome Scott! I lived in Carmel, Indiana for several years I was one of the team of people who opened up Charleston's Restaurant off of US HWY 31 up there back in '97 and spent some time w/ Palomino Restaurant back in the early 2000's in Circle Center Mall in Downtown Indy prior to partnering in a business in Downtown Chicago.

Good to have you here if you need help there are lots here who can do just that.

I hear ya on the phallic symbols, I watch a video the other day with some Norwegian and some crazy tank setup with a mod that looked like the size of a small d cell mag lite. It was huge.

I'm with you, I don't know if I can make that switch. I'm on ego batterys now and doing ok.

Check out the billet box, I was kinda intrigued by this. It's a mod, but not shaped like a dong.

Hey! I've spent my share of time at that Charleston's up on the north side. It was a hot spot for my industry peers and I to grab cocktails. I hope things are going well in Chicago. I've performed out there many times: Park West Theater, Schuba's, Wise Fool's Pub, Burlington, a few other places. I love that city.

I can't say what's best for you in regards to what type of gear you use, but I can warn you that its real easy to become a vaping gear head. I have seemed to "upgrade" every few weeks since I started. Still using the ego twists at work but I've started quite a collection in the few months I've been at this.

You're probably right, inthepines. I do have a lustful eye for shiny things. :) I have a plan with hopes I won't go crazy for at least a few months. :) I still have my slim pen-style batteries with small clearos, but I plan to throw them out once I pick up a few things. I want to break the "cigarette-ness" factors of the slims, meaning I no longer want to hold something like I would a cigarette and I want devices that are too heavy to hang from my lips. I intend to get an Innokin MVP for home, which is where I work, and an ego or two for when I'm out. I notice I don't vape much when I'm out and about, but I make my living as a writer, which means I've been used to either a cigarette constantly hanging out of my mouth or a dip constantly tucked in my lower lip. It'll be an adjustment to use a box mod at home. :)
