I'm lpboyle from Louisville, KY and I just tried my first e-cig today. I've heard several people both online and off raving about e-cigs and how they were able use them to quit smoking regular tobacco, and now barely smoke at all. My wife has actually been the one pushing us to try e-cigs, and today I broke down and bought a Gamucci Continental disposable e-cig to try out and see if these are right for my wife and I.

I'm a believer, 2-4 puffs off of this thing and I no longer desire to light up. I can French inhale, I feel the vapor hitting my throat like smoke does, and I have the feel of a cigarette like object in my hand. The tobacco shops closest to my apartment carry njoy, the Gamucci disposables, and e-health as brands. My thought is to get the njoy starter kits as soon as my wife and I can scrape up the money, but until then we are probably going to keep using the disposables.

To be honest we are anything but rich people and smoking is a vice we can no longer afford. When the Commonwealth of Kentucky raised the taxes on cigarettes and rolling tobacco last April, my wife and I were forced to switch to "little cigars." (Taxes on cigars and pipe tobacco were not raised when cigarette taxes were.) We can't do it anymore, we can't handle the little cigars any longer - those things are tearing us up too much. We have both tried to quit smoking in the past with no success. We thought e-cigs might be just what we needed to make a step in that direction. So far so good, we have been sharing a single e-cig all evening with little to no desire for a traditional smoke. Thank you e-cigs.

Hi lpboyle.

Welcome to ECF. Glad the disposables are giving you a good sense of how nice vaping can be. I smoked for 30+ years ,and haven't had a cig for more than 4 months now. Look around a bit, you may find some online options that you'll like better than the ones you can get in the tobacco shop- probably for less money.

Welcome!! I too tried the gamucci just to get me through the 2 days before my 510 came from cignot .com.I would recommend the 510 as its treated me well.I have only been vaping for 2 weeks, but i haven't had a cig or even so much as a drag off of one since.I was a heavy smoker(2packs a day) for 25 years and poof this thing worked like magic. Some people, like my wife, wean themselves down but you have to do whatever works for you.so that said i wish you and your wife the best of luck and this is the place to get all the info you could ever need, lots of great people and informative posts.

The attempts to ban have less to do with logic than they do with money. But, vapers have gotten active, and prevented ban attempts in Maryland, Illinois, and California....check out the campaigning subforum.

You may also want to look at the reviews subforum to see whether being able to purchase locally is a better bet than online. I use a kr808d and love it. I've not tried NJoy, someone else will need to answer about the brand, but for me, online ordering is fast and inexpensive.

Again thanks for all the greetings. I'm sure NY and the FDA are only responding to pressure from the ESTABLISHED tobacco companies - ban or regulate the heck out of anything that isn't contributing to politicians' campaign funds. I watched the thread with the video of New York State's debate about e-cigarettes and the pack of the disposables I bought defeats several of the statements presented: it lists the nicotine content (1.6% per ml), the words "NOT FOR SALE TO MINORS" are written on the pack in bold on a contrasting background, and the rest of the liquid ingredients are listed on the pack (as opposed "vapor containing we don't know what.") I'm back to real cigs (little cigars actually) at the moment just because I can't get another PV until my very overdue check gets here. However, once the check arrives I'm set, I am switching to e-cigs. I have a four year old son, and I try not smoke around him, but some days that is easier said than done - I don't want him to suffer for my bad habits.

I had even been put on smoking cessation medication (Zyban) at one point and wasn't able to kick cigarettes. I started vaping and I finally found something that works. Even if I can't get over my nicotine addiction, I can choose lower nicotine levels and I'm no longer hurting anyone but myself.

The ban also reminds me of a discrepancy in KY's last increase on tobacco taxes - the taxes were raised on cigarettes and rolling tobacco but not cigars or pipes. Hmmm, I wonder what demographic group was behind that tax increase.

CES, I will be checking out the campaigning forum and those reviews. I would very much like to see what others have to say about brands. I prefer to buy local to support my local economy but less expensive and higher quality is less expensive and higher quality.

I think 15 posts will allow you start adding links. The different brands get confusing. The kr808d-1 is what i use. It's a two-piece model, battery and cartomizer (the atomizer and cartridge are a single component). I get my batteries (vaporking) and juice from Vapor4Life-Because it's your life - E-Cigarettes/Smoking Alternatives, but if you want to refill, the turbo cartomizers from Electronic Cigarette Store at VaporNine:The Smoke Alternative are great. I've also gotten juice I like (chocolate mint) from Electronic Cigarettes from Cigeasy - Home of the Easy E-Cigarette

I don't have any experience with 501's but this link will tell you a lot about the many different types and models...it's a fantastic starting place.

Thanks for all the greetings. I was thinking of getting the NJOY next just so I can get refills locally without having to wait on shipping. So far I don't think I'm going back to regular smoking. Now somebody explain to me, why they are trying to ban these things???

It's too complicated for 'me' to try to explain the ban per se;, but suffice it to say that the FDA & "Big Tobacco" (among others) are determined to ban the eCigs because they stand to loose big $$$$ and can't find a 'way' (for want of a better term) to 'control' and benefit financially from the Sales of eCigs. (whew!)

.. with that being said.... If money is an issue with you then I 'definitely' recommend you start with a ($40 shipped) Manual Joye 510 (no box) Starter Kit from Cignot. You get two complete eCigs with a wall charger and 5 pre-filled cartridges. (I recommend the Marlboro high nicotine ones). The Joye 510 produces TONS of vapor & flavor and is the highest quality eCig out there for the Money.. hands down. While you're there... go ahead & order some of their Joye Smoke/Tobacco flavored Nicotine Liquids.... 24 mg strength is a great Nicotine level and will keep you away from the Analogs. It's only $12.00 for a 30ml bottle and a bottle lasts me about two weeks... depending upon how much I vape. My older Brother vapes about a 30 ml bottle a week! (lol) I've tried EVERYTHING and in my humble opinion nothing comes close to the Joye 510 eCig... (except for the Janty eGo and some of the more expensive MODS and what have you)... but since $ is an issue, as it is for MOST of us, then the Joye 510 is what you NEED to start with... and end with. That's OK.. you can THANK me later.. they ALL do.. :D

PS - (Be sure to tell 'em Eve sent ya!!!)

PSS - If you spend over $60.00 there at Cignot.com - Shipping is FREE!

Since my wife and I both smoke, I'll most likely be buying enough to get the free shipping from cignot. Since the kit contains two complete e-cigs I think one kit and some extra batteries should do the trick (I hope). How long is the battery life one the 501's?

CES, thanks for the links. The Vapor King is what was originally recommended to me by my cable guy it looks like it's going to be a toss up between that and the 501. Thanks for the link to the illustrated guide. Somehow, I missed that when going through all the stickied noob posts.

The KR808D-1 have a larger capacity for power, so the batteries last longer. I ordered the Vapor King myself. The 501s hold less power but can be recharged more swiftly. There are parts you can buy to bridge the two models' parts to make modded hybrids.

The V4L ultimate models have 2 complete ecigs. Each cart you buy for it has its own atty. Batteries can be bought in many colours.

For the 501s, batteries come in many designs as well, but the attys and the cartridges are separate. The smaller capacity battery may lead to a smaller form factor for carrying.
