As a 20+ year 2 pack a day smoker hacking daily with a smokers caugh, probably stinking like an ash tray (but I wouldn't know because I have lost my sence of smell along with my ability to taste) and paitently waiting for my 510 to arrive so I can hop on the bangwagon with the rest of you I wanted to put my two cents in here.
First off as a Jewish person, I find the Hitler remark beyond insulting, but I won't go further there, sure you all understand.
As a parent (of 2 beautiful children who want nothing more then mommy & daddy to quit smoking) would I be
happy if my children became addicted to ANYTHING well of course the answer is NO. I'd like to see my children grow up to lead the healthiest addiction free lives as possible. But the letter clearly states
"would I be any happier" (as happier to me does not imply I am happy, just less upset then the other option) I would also not be happy if they became addicted to coffee, but I would be happier if they were coffee addicts as opposed to cocain addicts. So if that is the question then yes, not happy, but happier indeed. If I had to choose between my children taking up smoking cigarettes or e-cigs.... then I believe the one that would make me
happier is the one that won't turn their teeth yellow, won't lead to lung cancer and all the other uglies, won't have them hacking up a lung
throughout the day and have them smelling like an ash tray.
Normally my politics lean towards being a libertarian, which in short means the governments only job is to deal with foreign affairs and us citizens conduct our own affairs, there would be no taxes and people of means would decide what causes they wanted to contribute to. Kind of a survival of the fitest world! But seeing as we are not living in that world and as long as the government is telling me where I can smoke and what I can smoke, why not close all the McDonalds. I can only imagine that McDonalds is less healthy then the e-cig and I am not so sure, based on my childrens reactions that it isn't addicting! I just don't understand how we are living in a country where children obesity is out of control, the health care system is falling apart and it seems people want to tell me I can't take up a habbit that will not only save me a few dollars, but give me a chance at living a few more years!
