okay. let's say i've just made up a large batch of 240 mls, and i've mixed it in just one glass bottle and want to use the crockpot method to speed steep. after the 4 hour bath can i then transfer it into 30 ml bottles. should i wait til they're cooled or could i do the tranfer straight away. seems if i was making this amount it would seem simpler to have one larger bottle in the crockpot instead of 8 smaller ones. i hope i've made this easy to follow and would appreciate some advice from you veterans.

thanks in advance for taking the time.:)

from experiance, juice will steep better/faster in "many but smaller bottles", due to much more surface area for heat to transfer. BUT i personaly wouldnt use heat to steep unless im making a 0 nic mix. also i personaly mix 470ML batches in a big bottle and then pour just one 30ml to taste/steep with an ultrasonic cleaner, while the big 450ml bottle sits in a closet and steeps.

I'll ignore my brain screaming, "Why would anyone do this?!", and answer the question.

You can transfer right away. The volume will contract as it cools. As long as the bottle can handle the pressure, it should be fine.

If you're unsure if the bottle can handle the pressure caused by the contracting volume, then wait until it cools.

Not sure why people think this is odd. I mix a ton of my edv (tobacco) just so it can time steep while I have the older ones to vape. I mix about 4 x 120 mls at a time. If I'm out, I use the SC. In terms of transferring, if you are putting it in plastic (which I wouldn't recommend), definitely let it cool down. If you're putting it in glass, it should be fine, but uh...why the rush? Easy way to get burned. Is there a reason why you want to transfer it so quickly?

It may be easier to make the larger bottle and keep track of, but in terms of steeping, the large bottle may prevent equal heat distribution...but I'm not a scientist. I do know that if I need to nuke a burrito, it cooks more evenly when I cut It into a few sections...not that microwaving burritos equates to SC steeping.

240mls will need a total of 12-15 hours total steeping in a crock pot at 150 to equate to 2 weeks of just plain ol steeping in the closet. I do agree with others in that its best to steep in the smaller bottles.

Just Curious. But how did your Arrive at the 12~15 Hours @ 150F equating to 2 Weeks of Plain Old Steeping?

Because Ive done it many times. Once you hit 120ml or larger sizes for crock pot steeping you must increase the steep time.

Gotcha.

It would seem that Once the e-Liquid inside a Bottle reached 150F that the Steep Time would start Ticking. And it doesn't Take that much Longer to take 120ml from Room Temperature to 150F as it does 30ml.

But I'll take your word on it. Because I have Never Done 120ml before.

Well its also about the volume. Keep in mind that part of the process of heat steeping is the slow convection happening to the liquid inside the bottle mixing itself and blending things. Molecules interacting, etc. A larger volume of eliquid will require the extra time for that to happen. Its not just about heat alone. The heat drives a process and more volume would mean more to process. Granted im no chemist but it seemed like common sense when I think of it that way.

However, you could go for less time for larger volumes as well. It wont hurt at all but in my experience the results arent as good. Try it and see.

Interesting...

So if I put Ten 12ml bottles into that Crock Pot @ 150F it would take Less Time than if I just Chuck a 120ml Bottle in there?

I didn't know that.
