A stranger in a strange land

HELLO ALL,
I my name is nilo and this is my first post. I'm an old guy New to vaping . WOW ! Is there ever a lot of things to learn !
My hope is by reading and learning I will be able to make an informed purchase of my first E-Cig. I used to smoke cigarettes. Now I'm smoking cigars. I need to Stop The Maddness !
I have read here that most people are using the large tank thingies, but I think I want to start with E-Cigs first.

Can anyone tell me what the "best" cigarette type/looking unit is ? I am thinking of getting one from the Halo company. Would this be a good first choice ? The prices for e-cigarette are all over the place ! I don't want to spend a lot of money before I know what I want.

Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED ,
Nilo

I started with a halo g6 and I think it was a good place to start. The size wasn't too intimidating as a beginner and it performed well. I still use it if I'm going out and don't want to carry my bigger one.
if you're interested in this model, here's my advice:
get the starter kit, a couple bottles of juice for the blank cartos, and a couple of their mini tanks (I switched to these almost right away because I don't like the taste of the cartos).
I'm still pretty new too, but I think this will get you off to a good start.
Welcome and good luck!

If you're doing cigars, you might as well start with an e-cig that has better performance. I would recommend if you're going to buy from Halo, a Triton Starter Kit. Its the size of a cigar as opposed to a little cigarette, more battery life, more performance and I'm pretty confident in saying you'd prefer it over a stick battery cig-alike. I was not a heavy smoker, yet I still wasted hundreds of dollars on SafeCigs and GreenSmoke etc. etc. Then I realized having a little cig-alike and getting good performance were not something you could have together. So I got my first eGo kit and haven't had a real cigarette since that day. (The Tritons are eGo style).

Just my :2c:

Hi Nilo,

Your questions are not easy to answer. There are a gazillion choices out there. Some would say you can get a cigalike penstyle battery that is roughly the same size as a cigarette, but the battery will have very little power to it and not last long and likely leave you frustrated. But, it can be a good place to start to get an idea of using an e-cigarette.

Others would say don't waste your money on those and go for a better battery model right away that will cost a little more (sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on where you purchase), but provide you with more enjoyment, satisfaction as well as compatibility if you want to experiment with different stuff.

Still others would say go for the ultimate set ups right away and get the best experience you can have.

I would say read on different battery types and see what people have to say about them to make an informed decision. You can search with the terms "pentstyle", "eGo", "vamo", "mod", among others and get a good idea of what beginner types of models are out there.

Also, I would recommend if you are a long-time smoker, try a tobacco juice or two, to get as close to a smoking type experience as you can. This will help the transition better, IMHO.

EDIT ~ there are pipe tobacco juices that are excellent, I hear, that would be a good start.

There's nothing wrong starting with a Halo, or Volt from Smokeless Image, or Eroll, or a 510 cig-sized. They can get you started and serve as a backup or out and about device when you decide to go bigger...and you will most likely decide to go bigger.

I started with 808 cig-sized...and they work. However, I would advise starting with an ego style because it will be more versatile. A 650mA is really not that big, and you could go even smaller with a mini 400mA. Getting ego/510 threading just opens a whole world of options.

Forgot to add: Grog

(that's from "Stranger in a Strange Land")

Nothing wrong with a cig-a-like. However if you enjoy vaping it won't be long until you want to try something a little bit better. I'm using an itaste mvp, it's a pass-through, has a battery that lasts 2 days and never lets me down. There is literally never a time when I can't be using it. Good luck with whatever you purchase!

Welcome to ECF, nilo52. You're in good company (there are lots of us old farts wandering around the forum, lol!)

I've been vaping for 8 months, and here's what I learned: I started with a cigalike from V2. It, and similar brands like Halo and the Smokeless Image Volts (all 808's, which refers to the battery's threading) are good, and many people make the switch successfully with these. However, upgrades are few and far between, so if you decide to upgrade to more advanced devices, be aware that most of them are the 510/eGo style, which also refers to the battery threading. If you start right up with an eGo or 510 style ecig, it will be easy for you to continue to use your first devices with the upgrades. That's my thought, but above all, I suggest you start slow and take time to decide what's going to work best for you.

Important, though: Always get a backup! Order at least 2 batteries with your first order and a goodly supply of juice or cartridges. In time, you'll want to have backups for everything, because ecig devices are not immortal, and they tend to fail at the most inconvenient time...!

A thought about your e-liquid (juice): by all means get some tobacco flavors, but also try some other non-tobacco flavors as well! Many juice vendors offer sampler packs, which will give you a nice across-the-board choice of flavors to try, in small, inexpensive quantities. You might be surprised at the number of vapers here who thought they would stick to tobacco flavors but ended up perferring flavors like pina colada and watermelon and vanilla custard!

And by all means, stop in here often, and ask questions! We *love* to answer questions!

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Vaping! :vapor:
