A Supplier Contacted Me on Yahoo

Someone from www.e-cikar.com messaged me on Yahoo. The said they got my Yahoo nick from this site and we chatted a bit. I don't mind, I'll chat with anyone who is polite. But it is probably not good form for an unregistered supplier to randomly message ECF members, and I thought the mods would like to know about it.

Yes, we should look at this.

Your Yahoo message link is below your avatar, so people can message you via that. Registered Suppliers here would not do that because there would be complaints, possibly leading to further action. In any case they would have no need to spam like that.

Unregistered suppliers can do whatever they like, off this site, as we have no control over them. We could maybe keep a list of known spammers, in case they ever tried to register here. You might well find that the one who contacted you has already been refused here, though.

I don't see any way to stop anyone messaging you if you publish the link for it. Those people are unlikely to ever be accepted on ECF.

A similar company spammed my examiner.com comments too. They are both from China, I wonder if it is actually the same company.

I got the Yahoo messenger one this morning myself. More than a year here and it's a first so I'm not sweating it but if it becomes a regular thing I'd remove my yahoo id.

I have had a couple folks msg me through Yahoo either cuz they were local or read one of my posts and needed help so....I think I'll leave it alone for now

By emailing you, they actually do not get your email address(unless you reply to them) The link sends you an email without disclosing your address.

You can disable it in your preferences.
