I read this last night in Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver

Saint Augustine once preached a sermon in which he proposed a kind of self-test to see if we truly love God.
Suppose God proposed a deal to you and said, "I will give you anything you want. You can posses the whole world. Nothing will be impossible you......Nothing will be a sin, nothing forbidden. You will never die, never have pain, never have anything you do not want and always have anything you do want -- except for one thing; you will never see my face."

Augustine closed with a question:
Did a chill rise in your heart when you heard the words, "you will never see my face"? That chill is the most precious thing in you; that is the pure love of God."
Powerful, isn't it? I don't think the word "chill" is accurate. Pain... inconsolable grief... shocked disbelief.... panic... terror.... wailing and gnashing of teeth...??? Chill is a bit of an understatement IMO.

I cant imagine wandering the earth for eternity without seeing God. it would be the exact something as being in purgatory forever. Never knowing his love, never knowing his face. All though we would get any and everything would could ever want, not having Gods love would make it all worthless.

I think it would be a punishment. Imagine having to watch your kids die, and their kids, and their kids forever and ever. watching your wife or husband die, and your next spouse and your next one. Imagine sitting doing the samethings for eternity, working, computer, samethings day and day out forever. Never knowing Gods true love, fulfillment, living in your mansion in heaven with all the loved ones that preceded you. Isnt this what God did to Lucifer?

I think we're saying pretty much the same thing. I wouldn't want to be without Him......ever.....actually, that scares the stew out of me, really. How does that gospel song go........'I can't even walk, without You holding my hand......'

I think I was probably in the scariest situation. I thought I WAS SAVED, until I became a blood bought born again. An atheist knows what they believe. An agnostic knows what they believe. A humanist knows what they believe....etc. But here I thought I was, and wasn't. I thought I was covered......that was a lie from the pit of hell. It makes me shutter, really.

Don't get me wrong, I long to see into the gorgeous eyes of The Savior.....those Royal Eyes. We have no idea exactly what He looks like now, and you are content. Worldly things? No thank you. I just want to be where He is......period.:)
