A warm-water bath seems to have killed my RM2.

It was working fine when I flushed it with warm water a couple days ago and let it sit to dry out. The coil looked fine today when I went to place it on my Grand but wouldn't heat up, so I replaced the coil and still dead. Anyone ever have this happen? Are there any user adjustments possible?
Are you sure it's making contact at the connector?

No, but it always has. How do I check?

Uh...errr...ummm... good question. I would first look at the bottom of the atty (rm2?) to make sure the center post is slightly sticking out. Then I would look at the connection in the 510 at the bottom of the well to see if it didn't get pushed down somehow. I wish I had a better answer but I'm sure someone smarter than me will come along soon.:)

Yeah, duckies are always a good option but I can't imagine why a bath would kill the atty. Is it a RM2?

Sorry bushmaster, I thought someone smarter than me would come along.:D

The center post actually appears to be recessed within the gasket. Can it be screwed out?

Not much, Roger. Rob says maybe a quarter of a turn. I doubt that's it if it was working the way it is before. The center post would not have changed positions just by going swimming. Has it had time to completely dry out? I don't want to insult you with the obvious, but is your battery good? You have or you haven't checked it with a multimeter?

I had to go farther than a quarter turn on one of mine to make contact. It still working but its NOT advisable. Your situation is different since it did work in the natural position before. Im pretty sure my issue was connector problem.

So, that center connector does screw out, right Gil? I didn't know but that'd be worth a shot.

Yes I have 2 Grands, 2 RM2's, I've tried every likely combination that might show the root of the issue......I think.:)

Try pushing your Grand's center post a tad out.

- Remove RM2 from Grand
- with your thumb (don't use a tool) push the positive pin outwards. The positive pin is the nozzle where the tubing from the bottle is attached. You can push it with the tubing still on. Just don't use much force.

Together with a half turn of the RM2s positive pin this might be enough to fire again.

I have no idea how bathing your RM2 can push on the Grand's center pin, but maybe that was just coincidence.

Well.....you nailed it, Gil.:)
For whatever reason, I was able to get a good contact after turning the head of RM2 contact point about a quarter-turn counter-clockwise. I don't know why this was necessary and I'll use my spare RM2 at work tomorrow....just in case the problem lies elsewhere. I can't see why a bath would cause this but live and learn, huh?
Thanks once again for your wisdom, Gil.:)
Also many thanks to my other REOnaut friends for their suggestions to a solution. We are still making this up as we go along, aren't we?
Roger
