I've read many, many warning on ecf about always using protected batteries. But thats for direct power, I assume.

I always though, wouldn't it be convenient if in a jam, you could just use duracell or energizer batteries.

What about a Portable USB Power Supply.

Granted, it's not a AA type battery charger, but to use it to charge up an eGo battery via the usb cable.

Has anybody used anything like this before? I'm thinking it might come in handy for travel incase your in a situation where your in between AC power, Just purchase some regular AA batteries and power up your eGo battery!

In the good old days I used to always carry a APC usb power pack, back then batteries were unreliable and lasted a short time (look at my avatar) . Its been a good 18 to 24 months since I carried one. These days of mega batts, better reliability and not to mention in-seat usb plug no need for me to carry one.
Here is a picture of my EGO Bat charging in flight PEK > YVR.
