USB cable with battery box, not really a USB cable

I just found out from David Yang that the usb cable he sells that has the battery box on it is not really supplying power directly from the usb port on your computer or battery pack.

In fact if you take the battery out, it will not work. If the battery dies and is still in the cable it will not work even if you are plugged into a usb port.

I did a review on this device and was not aware that the battey in the box was the only source of power feeding the atomizer. So boy was I surprised when the battery died and there was no way to keep using the cable with out the battery. I put a new battery from my ecigar in and it died as well. The problem turned out to be the box has a charging circuit that seems to have failed so no matter what battery you put in there, it will not get charged on the USB port.

Check The Positive Connection Between The Battery & The Battery Positive Connection on the Batt Holder. Thats Usually The Issue, No Contact.

The Batt Holders They are Using are Designed for Standard 1.5 Volt AAA Batts, Not The 3.7 Volt Style, The Contact Post Is Shorter. Easy Fix.

There is no charging circuit on any of mine I opened up...

That Should Help.

Keep Vapin!

Here is my mod of the same device your talking about (I ordered one of the new 15$ USB Passthroughs for the 801's) and it came in DOA, I talked to David and he said he would replace it with my next order, so I made it usable ...

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...sb-passthrough-i-got-doa-so-i-improvised.html

The only difference is I cut the cord that went to the USB plug (it can no longer be plugged in, only battery operated) because me and my wife didnt like the cord hanging down when we were passing it back and forth on the couch...

I did get 2 of the passthroughs, and the other one is my battery charger for my mod...

I was hoping it would run strait through but sadly that wasn't the case, but I made do...

AAAHHH. That is like sharing a toothbrush. Gross.

Thought you would like a nice pre-teen reaction to your comment.

WAIT

Janty's site implies that you can use their pass-through both ways.

Jantys site says

- You can use the additional USB cable via your computer or directly from the electricity network, giving you constant full power and full satisfaction

- You can use the exchangeable battery that is inside the USB cable

I was disappointed to find that the Kissbox pass-through is just like you described, robw. I suppose the easy fix is to cut out the battery box and connect the two wire ends together to make a straight pass-through. I may try using a switch so I can go straight from a USB port or use the in-line battery. Best of both worlds, sort of.
"

So did someone just comment, "my janty usb wont work when plugged in to a powered usb port, and the inline battery is removed" And that person is incorrect?
Or is Jantys site wrong?

Removing the inline battery, disconnects the circut? Or is it designed so that when the inline battery is there, AND the usb is plugged into a power source directly, it bypasses the battery providing extra power or supplements the batteries power for an overall power increase?

I really wish people would not give others ideas about splicing their equipment, without actually knowing how these things work.

So if you have any answers to this, it would be pretty nice of you to post.

Janty's site implies that you can use their pass-through both ways.

I think this can be taken another way too Phalse:

Jantys site says

- You can use the additional USB cable via your computer

You can plug the usb into your computer but they really don't say with or without the battery

or directly from the electricity network, giving you constant full power and full satisfaction

Or you can use it just with the battery box, no usb port needed.

So actually, both of these are true.

Where they fall short is here:

- You can use the exchangeable battery that is inside the USB cable

Maybe it should say "you must use the batterty that is inside the USB cable" ?

Just some thoughts.

Yep, you are right. The only thing still that is not cleared up is....

they say "USB cable via your computer or directly from the electricity network, giving you constant full power and full satisfaction"

Which implies some type of normal usb pass-through function.

There are 2 ways of designing that. For the usb power to increase and supplement battery power when plugged in (which is "maybe" what they mean) or to bypass the battery when plugged in to power source (but removing the battery breaks the circuit in their design)

3rd option is to have that statement about the "full power" from usb be incorrect....(I think it probably is a misleading statement and only the battery powers it and then is charged by usb only)

If you cut out the battery box on the Janty pass-through, you no longer have the option to use the thing without a USB connection. I like having that option as it is another battery in my arsenal. The only way I can think to make the cable work with the option to power directly from the USB OR use the inline battery is to install two DPDT switches. I may tackle a prototype this weekend.

In a house.
So the Janty USB Passthrough box is actually a Battery Box that charges the Battery inside it from the USB Port of a Computer or USB Mains plug but unlike a normal USB Battery Charger can be used to Vape as it is being charged ? Or does it stop charging when you stop Vaping and start again when you stop ?
What is the life span of the Battery ? How do you know when it is reaching the end of it's life span ? Does it just weaken or one day just stop alltogether.
I can not see the point of this Device. Why not use ordinary Battery's ?
Why when you are using a Battery would you want to be tethered to a Computer or USB Mains plug when you could have a spare Battery in your pocket or one on charge as with an ordinary Battery ?
Or has this Particular Battery have more Power and a longer life ?
Their advertising say's "This is no Ordinary USB Passthrough"
Their right. It's not a USB Passthrough. It's a USB Battery Charger which can be used while the Battery is charging.
They should Supply a spare Battery with the Kit if that is the case and nowhere in the information is it mentioned that you will need Lots of Battery's just like any other E-Cig.
If this is the case with the much heralded Janty Stick they can stuff it where the sun don't shine.

Man these guys are sneaky mothers. Keep it Stupid. Simple.
