About how long does it take?

I would *really* like to start trying out different flavors, but I know my taste-buds are nearly dead after 27 yrs of smoking. I'm apprehensive about even ordering any different flavors until I know I'm actually going to get a good "clean" full-flavor taste from them.

As I said, I smoked for almost 27 years (at times, as much as 3/ppd). I just recently started vaping (just after Thanksgiving), but had to smoke those nasty analogs for about a week since then because our e-cig charger malfunctioned and we were waiting on a replacement. So I've been completely smoke-free for about a week now.

I was wondering if anyone out there could give me a ballpark idea of how long it will take to get my tastebuds back? Right now I'm vaping on a menthol flavor (it's "okay") and we also bought a caramel flavor. I can barely taste the caramel and not sure if it's just the brand of liquid, or my dysfunctional taste buds.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

My tastebuds are definitely coming back after about 3 months, so keep it up!

I think I must be pickier than most; I prefer menthol, and am picky about my menthol. I have tried one sour apple that I like. To me some of the liquids I have tried have been too overflavored. I am not looking for a real STRONG flavor.

My favorite liquid site is Halo, but right now they only have tobaco and menthol flavors. Halo Truepure is my favorite. I also have been pleased with V4L liquids. I plan to try a few more from them.

I don't know which e cig you bought, but I am extremely happy with my Smoke Stik. I also ordered a passthrough from V4L that I just plug into my car lighter, so I don't need to worry about recharging.

Good luck with your search!

All of our taste buds are different so my experience may not be yours. Smoked for 30 years 2 packs a day. For the first two months my taste buds were up and down quite a bit. I found that I switched flavors quite often each day. Wasn't very happy when I'd wake up in the morning and find I had almost no taste for entire day although fortunately I didn't have a whole lot of those days and it would only stay that way for a day before some taste would come back. Once I passed my three month mark my taste buds seemed to have really evened out now. I do find that what I eat and drink does have an effect on what I taste when vaping. If I drink coffee it will pretty much kill any light flavored e-juice taste for a few hours for me. I don't change flavors during the day nearly as often as I did in the beginning.

By all means get yourself some new flavors to try now. Just understand that they may taste different on different days and what you love now may not be what you love a few months from now and vice versa. Hope you enjoy your vaping journey as much as I am.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm using a Yeti 510. I was always exclusively a menthol smoker all those years and as I said the menthol flavor juice I'm using is "okay" - especially on a full-charged battery and nice clean atty. The carmel juice is also kind of "okay" (but very weak flavor) on a fresh battery and clean atty, but the carmel taste is more of an aftertaste when exhaling than when I drag on it. I'd like a full rich flavor when I'm inhaling.

I'm *so new* to all of this, I don't know if I'm not inhaling right, if it's the e-cig itself, if it's the liquid brand - or if it's just that the flavors are supposed to be an aftertaste and not tasted on the inhale. (Feelin' really newbie here!)

Welcome, glad to have you here!
I was a 30 yr menthol smoker and have only been at this for about 35 or so days. I am now on 18 days of NO ANALOGS!
Yea.....!!!
Go ahead and order some small bottles of juice, in what you "think" you might like...and try a couple different menthols from
different vendors....they are different.
I mix mine to kinda get what works for me....menthol juice, couple drops of cinnamon flavoring... (don't try all this just yet)
Your taste buds will change.....while you are getting off the analogs....after you off the analogs....and several more times as well. I just recently went thru 4 days of misery...NOTHING tasted like it did a week ago and NOTHING tasted good. I read here and leaned this is just part of what is going to happen.
I got off the menthol for a few days, and smoked fruit flavors and one day I woke up...and the taste was back...
So the moral of my story is....buy you some small bottles or samples of juice....and go ahead and get to learning what you like. (try a couple different venders) some have 40% off right now
Your taste will change....drink lots of water (makes taste better since the PV dryes you out)
Brush the gunk off your tongue and upper mouth a couple times a day
and read, read and read...you'll learn so much to help you along the way.
Let us know when something comes up you don't understand.

Finding the right flavor is going to be the biggest part of your vaping experience. Everyone else have given you some great advice, but I'll throw my .02cents in here. When you're first starting out, your sense of taste and smell are going to be way off kilter for a while. Both taste and smell are directly linked. It may take a while for those things to come back to normal, but when they do, watch out! You might discover that tastes you really liked before are either too strong or too weak. Things that used to smell good or that didn't bother you much are now the bane of your existence.

The best thing you can do is just keep trying different flavors and experiment. Some people find their "all day vape" quite easily. I'm not one of them. I've all but given up on that one because I just like lots of flavors. I do have some flavors that I use more than others, but I switch it around throughout the day. You will probably also run into the cycle of "everything losing its' taste." It happens to all of us and it usually rights itself in a few days.

I smoked for 38 years. I have been off the analogs for three weeks now. I initially really missed the taste I got from my usual brand.
I have tried quite a few flavors vaping and most are too sweet for my taste buds. I have tried custom ordered cartos and various off the shelf e-liquids.
I have found as the weeks go by I have gotten used to some different flavors I didn't initially like, so make sure you change it up a bit and try again after a few weeks.
