SORRY- TITLE should say TAIFUN GS MINI

Hey all,
I'm pretty experienced building RBA's from Genesis style, RDA's, Kayfuns, Taifuns, Aquas, etc. But I am having my hardest time ever with this little mini Taifun GS. It leaks like crazy, and when I try to build it with more cotton in the top piece holes, the draw gets stiff and I get dry hits. I've also tried various types of Silica build to no avail. Yesterday I finally thought I had a decent cotton build with excellent vapor production, but when I woke up this morning, the entire tank of juice had run down my mod and onto my coffee table. All parts look good, mate together well, o-rings look fine. No leaks when I do various blow through tests with an empty tank. What is the trick with this thing? I've watched the you tube vids available for building this atty and copied their builds exactly.

Thanks. Gary

Thanks Josh,
I'm going to try a little extra cotton or silica inside on the deck by the coil to soak up more juice, and I'm going to try silica again as well. I'm seeing a lot of builds with 2mm silica, it's just a pain to feed it through the top cap holes (although someone recommended wrapping a bit of aluminum foil crunched up to a pointy tip to help feed it through.) If not, I'll try cotton again, keeping it very thin but fluffy as yours looks.

Thanks. Gary

ACtually the guy said he already has one and it is an excellent vape.

It IS an excellent vape, when I can get it to work. Usually, after my first 4 build tries, it produces incredible vapor especially for its size. Then the dry hits start OR I wake up to a device dripping in juice.
I actually just completed a new build- 3 strips of 2mm silica. two cut short and left in the chamber, the long tails fished through the top cap holes. Left about 10mm of tail above the top cap. So far-----so good! See what happens....

Are you not using ss mesh wicks?

Are you not using ss mesh wicks?

No, I've only seen one build with mesh. Cotton and silica seem to be the most popular. I don't like mesh and usually stay away from genesis type atty's for that reason.
I have it working well on my 4th try now, with the silica build I described above. No leaks (2 days), no gurgling, no dry hits. Good vape. It's just a finiky little device, IMO.

Thanks. Gary

The mesh isnt right up in the coil like a genny. Try the first build in the manual but use cotton instead of silica. You wont be disappointed. https://shop.strato.de/WebRoot/Store11/Shops/61925514/MediaGallery/Taifun_GS_-_User_Manual.pdf

Might try that next. It looks like it may be prone to some flooding unless there is just the right amount of silica in the chamber, though.
The 4th build looks interesting too. Kind of like a hybrid cartomizer of sorts. Might give some great flavor.

I cant speak to silica, I only use cotton, but ive never had a flood. Use just enough to fill the microcoil and reach the outer walls. The mesh will feed it, I wrap the mesh around a needle so it is like a straw and periodically run the needle thru it to keep the straw fully open. No flooding, no leaking, no dry hits.

The reason it works so well is because cotton is a great reservoir and holds plenty of fluid while ss mesh is an incredible wick that feeds the cotton just what it needs. The vacuum created when u draw keeps everything in.

I don't know why you're stuffing the space to the side of the coil with cotton. I've only built mine once, but it took one try and has been perfect for over a week now (2-3 tanks have been through it).

I have a single wick through the single coil. The two ends of the wick go upwards through the two holes in the cap, then get trimmed a few mm outside of the cap. Once you add juice those wicks swell a good bit and pretty much seal the coil area from getting any more juice than it can evaporate. I can imagine any extra cotton in there would pull in so much juice that it would flood and finally start leaking out the air hole.

You also can't discount that there's just something wrong with your particular unit...

Besides all that, I used to be an exclusive Kayfun 3.1/KFL/KFL+/91% fan. Couldn't get anywhere near the same vape out of anything else (tried pretty much everything), but these Taifun GT and GS are up there right with the Kayfuns. If only the GS wasn't so long, and the GT so friggin huge I would use them on a daily basis (thankfully I just ordered a nano tank for the GT so it'll hopefully get used).
