After more than a year hiatus from DIY with an endless run of trying out premades I am thinking of getting back into doing some DIY (I had done it for several months). I've stopped dealing with 10-14 jooose rotations every day/night with 10-14 APV's going the same time and want to settle on a few ADV's finally, and using far less APV's. A late bloomer in the premades I can't seem to get enough of is Absinthe. Not bought from a vendor I normally use because most I've tried from them don't hold their flavor. But good enough that when the 30ml was getting down I bought another 250ml with 5 extra flavor shots for use until I figure out my own. Anyway, I bought a large stash of the same Absinthe flavor from TFA that is used in that premade. I know the premade has other additives, a citrus for example, but no idea what else is also included. After a search for Absinthe recipes I found a few, most of which have some additives in them I am not interested in using at this point, so thought I'd come here for suggestions.

I also found all the sources for Absinthe flavor, including what most seem to feel is the best of them. But I will start with what I have already bought, not dwell into to those others for now.

Also know I need to start with the basic one flavor to figure out what percentage of it works for me, I like it strong but don't know what percentage to start with. The recipes had from less than 1% to 20%. I will be mixing VG heavy to near 100% VG most likely, but have ample supplies of PG as well I'd maybe use up to 30% of. Have supplies of nic still in the freezer, but I don't need nic so probably won't add it. I don't want to add the anise that so many of those I found use, many of them with it more as the main flavor instead of as an additive. Again, I'll use what I've got for the main for now. Not big on fruits - I normally don't vape fruits... other than citrus, nor bakery or candy flavors. I still have 50-60 other flavors from the past, most of them still unopened that should still be good. But what burned me out in the first place was doing 2-3 dozen test batches at a time, lot after lot of them, week after week, nonth after month. Most I did were usable (except the fruits, etc), a few were enjoyed enough to make them an ADV for awhile. But it was just way too much work and time spent doing that many tests that I don't want to start doing again. I did add a commercial UC near the end though to make aging painless.

Anyway, if you have a favored Absinthe recipe along the lines of the above I'd appreciate some pointers.

Thanks.

I love absinthe. I use tfa absinthe at 7% in one of my all day vapes. it is a very odd mix of flavors but is absolutely yummy. been fine tuning the recipe for almost 5 years now.

and yes citrus is amazing with it

here is my recipe, and again it is a lot of flavors that you wouldn't think go together

all flavors tfa
7% absinthe
3% hypnotic
2%pear
2% granny apple
2% blueberry wild

I know that Acai is technically a fruit but it has a very unique flavor. And I mix TFA Acai with TFA absinthe each at 3% and absolutely love it.

I have seen a Pluid clone recipe that mixes Absinthe with Hoorhound and black tea or with Ecto cooler ( a citrusy almost cactus cooler style flavor) and black tea. Haven't tried it but it sounds good.

Currently I am working on a recipe using Absinthe, orange, and spearmint. Haven't got it yet but getting close, so far it's not great but pretty good. I will post it up here when I get it right.

Spydro, I'd ordered Mt. Baker's Absinthe over the summer and L.O.V.E.D. it. So much so that I "hoarded" it and didn't vape it very quickly. Few months (yes, months) later, I come back to my meager 15mL bottle, and the flavor has almost disappeared (no flavor shots in original purchase.)

Got into DIY about 5 months ago. Started really delving into the DIY thread and found the TFA thread. Bill's Magic Vapor had listed the following for his Black Licorice (all TFA flavorings):

Absinthe 15%
Sweetener/EM 4%
Menthol 1%
Sweet Cream 3%

This (IMO) tasted JUST LIKE the MBV Absinthe I'd ordered over the summer. I now have no need to hoard this magical (no pun intended) flavor.

Check out Bill's blogs - he has a bunch of recipes in there that might suit you.

ETA: I'm not overly concerned with my PG/VG ratios - I just want the flavor base. I end up topping with 50/50, and it's completely up to my amount of flavoring to determine final ratio....
