Okay. I've never smoked cigarettes in my life, but as a hobby I decided to give vaping a try by the recommendation of some friends.

I asked my friend to pick me up the same vape pen he had (evod), not even thinking of asking for a nicotine-free juice. I noticed on the bottle it said 12mg nicotine about 3 days into vaping when I ran out. I didn't think it was that big of a deal at the time, so continued buying the 12mg ejuice.
It's been about 7 weeks now since I first started vaping and today I decided to try a non-nicotine juice. I love the flavour, but I am not feeling satisfied at all. I am worried that I may have developed an addiction to nicotine but my friends insist that it's not possible since I've never smoked.

So, please tell me, do you think it's possible that vaping the nicotine ejuices have gotten me addicted to nicotine?

Thanks..

I'd edit this post before it gets deleted. They're strict around here when it comes to illegal substances. I don't see why the nicotine in e juice would be any less addictive than nicotine in other substances. Yeah it's possible you're becoming addicted. Try lowering the nicotine level gradually and see what happens.

1sttimevapor what you may be noticing with the 0 nic liquid is that throat hit is missing which is something that you probably feel with your other activity as well. Throat hit is absent in 0 nic juices. It is nicotine that produces throat hit but that doesn't mean your addicted to nicotine. It just means you prefer throat hit over no throat hit, and feel more satisfied when nic is present to give you that throat hit.

howdy - and welcome... not sure how much of addiction you would have developed at this point, but likely a definite affectation... may want to consider trying no nic juice, or at the very least, stepping it down (9... then 6... then 3... then 0) over the course of a couple of weeks, should be doable

and, as mentioned above, would suggest editing post to remove drug references - we are adults, but given the pressure and scrutiny vaping is under, as a whole, it is best to keep drug talk out of the vaping conversation

This is a sad post. 7 weeks is not long, so time to quit the Nicotine I think... before there is absolutely no question you have self-inflicted Nicotine addiction on yourself.
i.m.o. your friends are not very wise... of course you can become addicted. To suggest otherwise is crazy...

OP, all your going to get here is pure speculation and opinion, on both sides. An answer to a debate that's been on going in the scientific community isn't going to be found on this forum through it's members. Your answer is going to come through your personal experience with nicotine and no where else. Everybody's different.

1. "Nicotine is addictive."

This is an opinion with no evidence to support it, and in this situation any opinion is valid. However, such a statement is probably incorrect on multiple levels:

  • Use of the term 'addictive' is deliberately emotive and used for the purpose of inflaming the debate when applied to a material for which harm is impossible to measure reliably; it is incorrect because modern custom is to use the word 'dependence' and 'dependence forming' for a material causing no reliably measurable harm (e.g. coffee, for which there is some evidence for dependence creation).
  • 'Addictive' is used when the custom or consumption is likely to cause reliably-identifiable harm of some kind (e.g. gambling addiction, crack addiction).
  • There is no evidence that nicotine is dependence-forming except in tobacco smoke along with a mix of 9,600 other compounds including multiple synergens and boosters. Describing one item from a list of 9,600 as responsible for the whole is a gross logic error. Ketchup could be made to create dependence with such an ingredient profile.
There is no evidence whatsoever that nicotine has any significant potential for dependence outside of tobacco smoking, and anyone who tells you that it can create dependence is offering an unsupported personal opinion, or is badly misinformed.

Nicotine Propaganda

And I agree with Penny, 0 nic has a lot less, if any, TH. Although increasing the % of PG in the mix can bring some of that back.

A doctor would be able to tell you, scientifically, how likely you are to be addicted to nicotine. Of course, doctors are humans, and humans have opinions. Which doctor you choose with whichever opinion will give whatever conclusion he/she sees fit, and that may be wide open to speculation. In reality, through studies of substance abuse therapy in college, the definition of "addiciton" is very broad and vague.

As stated, you can lower the nicotine content if you choose. The consideration that's not mentioned is that nicotine, in and of itself, is not an evil thing. It has many beneficial properties such as increased physical metabolism, heightened mental alertness, improved mood, and has been shown to have positve effects against Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. It may have a tendencey to increase blood pressure in people prone to vascular restriction, but nobody has experienced a heart attack due to vaping as far as I know.

Your mileage may vary. It's not the end of the world if you have developed some physical dependency on nicotine. It is very easy to treat by weaning yourself down. I wouldn't worry about it, personally.

I think addiction is highly personal to each person experiencing it. I highly doubt anyone but you can answer that question. Try higher pg juices and see what happens. Go with non nicotine juices and see what happens.
If you feel it's not enough and want to quite, then step down the nic level till your at zero, in whatever intervals that works for you.
How you started at 12mg and didn't notice any effects and or get ill, I can't quite figure out. I'm not you either, so there's that.
Personally I wouldn't recommend anyone get addicted to any substance.
Good luck to you and your situation.

Let's give it a proper scientific testing. The procedure is as follows,

A: Toss your gear in the garbage.
B: Make a list of your actions for the next 48 hours.
C: Check list

Unless the list contains things like...

- Robbed a convenience store
- Sold moms TV
- Fought for ownership of a street corner
- Tried melting down the family goldfish for ingots
- Made indecent proposals to shady guys driving suspiciously slow past your newly claimed corner
- Kicked little old ladies to get to their Benson&Hedges
- Unsuccessfully tried to pawn this list

... you're not an addict.
