This is kinda embarrassing but here it goes; it's may,5 2014 and I quit smoking and started vaping on last black Friday and since then I haven't touched a cigarette but my face is sooooo broke out! I read somewhere that quitting smoking causes acne but I also heard it could be a pg/vg allergy. I'm unsure though. I smoke pg based juices only so I'm gonna try only smoking juices high in vg to see what happens....Has anyone else had this problem?:)

Blaine,

The same thing happened to me after 5 months of no cigs. I also have no hormone issues. I have no history of acne before this past January.

At first I thought mine might have been a VG allergy-NOT PG. But then I reminded myself that I used to vape 100% VG back when I was using Blu, so that couldn't be it.

But I think there must be something to your body getting rid of toxins. I mean, we smoked for years (at least I did for 10+ years). It's gotta take a while for your body to fix itself.

I bought me some Acne Free and it's helped tremendously. It hasn't eradicated it completely, but has made it manageable and less severe. Up to 80% better in my case. And the acne that still occurs is nowhere near as bad as it used to be since I started using it. I used it once before years ago as a preventative measure before getting married (I wanted my skin to be perfect in my wedding photos). So I came back to it to treat my "quit zits".

It got better for a while, but I am noticing a flare up this week. I blame it on the hot and sticky weather we've been having here in KY.

Yes, it's best to get answers from a doctor. However, I've decided to treat it myself. Even with health insurance, it will cost me a ton of money to first see my GP, then get a referral...wait another month to get an appt with the referred dermatologist, pay hundreds of more dollars for an initial consultation, and thousands for more tests and follow up visits...and frankly I just can't afford it. Thank you, High Deductible Insurance Plan!

Don't worry, it will get better. And I've done other reading on here where some VG users do experience acne.

I posted about it once a while back and there were some folks that were against me thinking that vaping had anything to do with it. But it is a possibility.

I went a while vaping 100%PG and then a while vaping 100%VG and both times there was no improvement (nor did it worsen). I went about 1 week each time.

Hope it gets better for you.

Toxins are purging from your body, it will not last to long though so do not worry.

I went through that as well but it only lasted a few months, I have 0 acne at the moment, I will get a zit every now and than but that is most likely from eating chocolate or drinking soda.

You do know sugar has nothing to do with acne right??

And to the OP it could be alot of things, I would start out with some facial cleansing stuff, and if it persists, then see a dermatologist.

I have tried salicylic acid and it didn't help; now i'm using benzoyl peroxide and it has cleared my face up immensely! But my face is still pretty bad :(

I also had acne after making the switch. Not just on my face but on my upper back as well. It took me a bit to make the connection because I'd read that it could be a possibility after getting off of the cigs. For me it was a PG reaction. It's reduced dramatically since then but like someone else said I do get a break out but it's not nearly as bad as before. Good luck finding out what's causing it in your case:)

Yeah my acne is now on my upper back and some times chest! I think mine is a pg allergy, it's gotta be! Thank you for your comment!

It could be anything.. Might be related to vaping, or might just be related to quitting smoking.. Or both.. Or neither.. :D

I've heard that it can take toxins (from cigs) up to a year (or more?) to leave your body.. So basically anything during that time is fair game, including toxins leaving your body through your skin & playing a role in acne...

I haven't had a cig in almost 9 months -- and I'm still hacking up brown stuff sometimes, though not as much and not as often.. Which means I've still got junk in my body...

Depends on a lot of things, like how long you were smoking, how much you were smoking, how your body deals with stuff, etc.. Everybody is different..

And yeah, there can be a delay with these things, too.. I started coughing up stuff from day 1.. Though sometimes that doesn't happen with others for a few months -- if at all

If it is related to vaping, then changing up your e-liquid should help...

I've got a problem with acne too. I've been having pimples appear and disappear on my left cheek for the past year. I've been off of cigarettes for about 3 years, so perhaps it's due to the vaping, I've also been having problems with my teeth. Has anyone heard of people getting a lot of cavities all of a sudden? I suppose I should switch to 100% VG for a while and see if anything changes.

You could just have adult acne. I had frequent acne into my 30's and I still get some, esp. when I cut back on my smoking and vape more. Maybe cigarette smoking was suppressing it, I noticed cigs seems to dry my skin and reduce oil production somewhat (I did not smoke the whole time during my 20's, just a few years, then again some in my 30's now).

The best acne treatment I've found is salicylic acid used twice a day. I've also had good luck recently using sulfur ointment (it's an Hispanic remedy, and seems to work). Benzoyl peroxide will also work but try a lower strength compound to avoid irritation (one thing I used to do is mix with skin cream). Retin-A, a prescription cream, did not work and just irritated the heck out of my skin.

Yeah, the Acne Free stuff I've been using is mainly a Benzoyl Peroxide based cleanser. But it seems to be keeping it at bay. It's pretty cheap on Amazon, but you can buy it anywhere (Walgreens, Wal MArt, etc). It's basically a cheaper version of ProActive.

Before I started the Acne Free, I was using salycilic acid based stuff and it didn't do the trick. My acne is what I would describe as cystic acne, which salyciic acid won't have as much effect on. Salycilic acid works better on minor surface acne as it's an exfolliant.

It depends on what your juices are sweetened with!
