In for a penny, in for a pound...

After REALLY enjoying my 901 kit for one week, I decided to take the plunge and go balls-out for my first mod. I just ordered the last "in stock" AcryliMax Acrylic Variable Volt APV (Copperwood) from "madvapes", along with a mess of other accessories (drip tips, atties, extensions, adapters, etc).

Hopefully it will be here by the middle of next week. I'll keep y'all updated, and give a full report when I get it, and figure out all the controls.

My lungs are LOVING the fact that I'm no longer smoking, but my wallet is starting to hate me, and wondering when the cost savings is going to start, because I've been buying VapeGear like a fiend for the last two weeks...

I'll be interested to hear how you find it. As a tip, use it as VW rather than VV.
Also - have a read about battery safety if you haven't already, and if you don't have a digital multimeter I suggest getting one. You can get some good ones that don't cost that much.

I've downloaded the manual already and am going through it this evening.

I also have been looking into battery safety. I ordered IMR batteries, which are supposed to be MUH safer than the regular 18605 Li-ion batteries. Are there any specific issues with IMR batteries that I need to know?

I have a top-of-the-line Craftsman Digital multimeter (which I believe is actually a re-branded Fluke) that I bought a few years ago when I was building my own cables for my stereo, and rebuilding some high-end gear (a Krell preamp and a couple old tube amps), so I should be good to go on that account. What will I meed the multimeter for? Testing cartos and attys for true resistance values, so I an accurately calculate the voltage and wattage settings on my APV?

I can't think of any specific issues if you have IMR - they should be fine with the Zmax (Acrylimax).

The Zmax should read the ohms of your attys and cartos and adjust the voltage to suit when you use VW.

Use the mutlimeter to test your battery voltage - if the batteries are low charge them before putting them in the mod. If the battery voltage off the charger is too high - toss the batteries.

IMR Li-Mn rechargeables
Manufacturers include AW and BDL. AW are reported as higher quality. These batteries are unlikely to explode in use and there are no reports of this occurring (but they can melt down with flames if abused by for example short-circuiting or APV switch lock-on). They are recommended in place of Li-ions and do not need protection. These batteries are of high quality and are therefore expensive - but you get what you pay for.

Notes:
- No memory effect.
Cautions:
- They have a high current discharge potential and therefore it may be wise to have a protection circuit in the main device. The discharge rating is often 8C, meaning it is likely that a lot of amps would be available if the battery were to be short-circuited (= a dead short or shorted-out).
- They will be overcharged by old-technology chargers and may burst.
- Overcharging (>4.25 volts) will shorten the service life, which is 500 charges under ideal conditions.
- Discharging below 3 volts will shorten the service life.
- If you run a Li-Mn down below the minimum discharge voltage, the cell can be damaged. As there is no 'trip out' as with a protected Li-ion, this is a concern.

You can extend the service life of these cells by not recharging above 4.15 volts or discharging below 3.3 volts.

I believe the ciruitry in the Arylimax ALSO reads out battery voltage--or at least according to MadVape's website description it does...

But I'll keep that in mind. Since I plan on using this mod as an "at home use only" unit, I don't have to consider carrying around a pro-model multimeter all the time (which would be a little cumbersome). Of course, I DO plan on bringing it to any loal meet-ups, and will probably take it to the local VapeShops to show it off when I finally get the hang of it and an really show it off...

I prefer to check voltage before it goes into the device. If the battery voltage is too high I don't want to stick it in my mod and power up...

I assume you are buying that many because you REALLY like this mod, and NOT because you think you're going to NEED that many because of failure or breakage or something, right?

Just ordered the red tie-dye one myself. For $80 and they had a 10% discount ended up getting it for $72! Can't beat that for a VV/VW mod. They look cool too. A nice change from all the stainless steel everything that's out there now. They remind me of the swirly colored bowling balls...lol. I know the ZMax has issues with voltage running higher than it says, but for the money I couldn't resist. Added a few other small items to get the total over $75 and got free shipping too. Should be here today... thanx Mad Vapes!!!

FYI - be careful using this PV for dry burning. I melted mine. Done. cooked. I unscrewed the battery cap and the insides of the PV came tumbling out.

I haven't heard back from Madvapes as of yet. Buyer beware.

i have the patriot love the vw its no pro vari quality wise but works well remember it runs hot i usually vape at 7 watts which is 5 on the acrylimax
