ACSH takes AHA to task over it's smokeless tobacco stance...

http://www.acsh.org/factsfears/newsI...ews_detail.asp

Quote:
To the American Heart Association: Physician leaders such as yourselves who consider themselves experts in cardiovascular disease and public health should be deeply ashamed of the recent AHA policy statement downplaying—indeed, denying—even the possibility of using smokeless tobacco to help addicted smokers quit.

Everyone here should pass this letter to their local people who make state decisions. It should also be posted as many times as possible on as many social networks as possible. It says everything I ever wanted to say, and more, on the subject of the nonsensical bias of the anti-smoking zealots.

Don't be surprised if the AHA soon announces that GSK and/or other NRT marketers have given AHA lots of money.

By misrepresenting the evidence and staunchly opposing smokers switching to smokefree tobacco products or e-cigarettes, CTFK, ACS, AHA, ALA are trying to encourage drug companies to give them even more money.

Yup. I've always hated the "If I can do it, anybody can do it" claim. But just today, I found myself actually calling upon it. I was responding to a comment someone left regarding our use of PVs "influencing those that are most vulnerable – children."

I wrote: "If you are worried about your children being influenced by seeing people smoking, or doing something that only looks like smoking, do your job as a parent. I smoked for 45 years, but I taught my children well. Neither of them and none of my 7 grandchildren smoke. If a smoker can make sure his or her children don’t take up smoking, why is that so difficult for a non-smoker?"
