What other differences are there between the brass and aluminum adapters, besides that brass will require periodic cleaning and adds weight to the device? How vulnerable are the aluminum threads?

Brass and aluminum have similar hardness ratings. Atomizer threads are very fine and do not take exessive pressures to seat, so stripping them is not a big concern. The main concern is cross threading them when starting the atomizer. One needs to exercise caution whenever scrwing on an atomizer and to keep the threads clean and free of debris which can also lead to cross threading.
