That's a guideline for the average mix but some go to 35% or higher. The best advice I can give is start each flavor at the lowest recommended percent and taste and work your way up. It is also advised to mix each flavor on it's own so you know what each individual flavor taste like. This will help you determine if that flavor will work in combination with the other flavors. For instance not all cherry flavorings taste the same some taste like freshly picked cherries, some taste like candy and some even taste like halls cough drops. Tasting each flavor would let you know this before adding it to a mix and possibly ruining the mix.

I have a question about flavoring percentages. I know that it is bit more complex than this, but am I right that the TOTAL percentage of ALL flavorings in a recipe should be...or no more than...15-20%?

As Danny said, it is a Guideline. It depends on How Concentrated the Flavorings is.

I have Read that with some tobacco Flavors, people are using 3 or 4% Maximum. Whereas a Fruit Flavor might not start to be Flavorful until you Reach 10%.

It's just Very Hard to Say.

A Good Way to get a Ballpark on a Flavor Percentage is to Post the Brand and Flavor you are using and see what type of Range other people are Using. Then take the High and the Low and do some Test Batches.

If the High and Low is say 5% ~ 15%, then you could make some 15ml Test Batches at 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15%. Then let them All Sit for 3 or 4 days to "Steep".

Then Try each one and see which you Like the Best.

Some flavors are good at 3% and some could be as good as 35% so it's always different depending on the brand of flavoring you use and the type of flavors in your recipe. My recipes vary in all different percentages. Like Danny said, when in doubt, start out low in percentages because you can always add to it later. Make very small batches with no nicotine til you think you have something you will like. Always write down everything you used because if you like it, you will be glad you wrote it down. And what I usually do with a new flavor I'm unfamiliar with is Google the forums and check with a couple DIY groups I am in on Facebook to get a better idea on what starting percentage might be good and whether it is a strong flavor or weak one to work with.

Also, I use a butterscotch in one recipe with a few other flavors and love the butterscotch at 3% because I add others to it, while I've seen others post they use the same butterscotch at 20%. But since I add other flavors to it, the 3% works best in my particular recipe. So it will vary on different recipes depending on what else you add to it possibly.

I too am generally part of the less than 20% club. Straying over a little when adding EM and sweetener at times. But the recipe below from the mothers milk was really really good with a whopping 31.5% flavor. This is from the mothers milk clone thread a few pages deep on this forum.

9% capella sweet strawberry
5% capella marshmellow
4% sweet cream tfa
4% capella vanilla custard
4% capella french vanilla
4% vanilla swirl tfa
1.5% capella new york cheese cake
