Adjust voltage for flavour?

Hi all :)

I'm still a newbie and trying to learn fast!

I've got an innokin iTaste MVP with an Aspire nautilus. (Only been using it a day)

Whilst I'm happy with the vape I don't seem to be getting the same flavour as I was with my old eGo type 1000 mAh battery and CE4.

My iTaste is only voltage adjustable and was wondering if increasing the voltage will improve the flavour. I currently have it set at 3.8 volts.

Oh, and do I need to change the coil when changing flavours?

Cheers

Jim

Taste is personal. The best thing to do is try it. Sometimes increasing the power will make it taste better, other times it wont. The beauty of vv and vw is the ability to change the power without wrapping a new coil.

Upping the power generally changes the taste, volume and heat of the vapor. You just need to stay is battery ranges for your power, which is more advanced then what you are asking about.

My mvp is both vv and vw. Not that it is that much of a difference since wattage is a component of voltage.

Changing the coil or cleaning it will give the true flavor of the liquid . I typically don't because after a half or tank or so it is generally clean of the old liquid. Who knows you may even find the mixing of liquids is quite delicious. Again it will be personal preference that will only come with time. Some liquid are truly powerful and slight nuance will remain no matter how much you clean. Clove does it to mine.

Yes, it will. Slowly dial up your voltage. If you start to get "dry hits" take it down a notch or two.

If you are using similar flavors you don't have to change your coil. The new flavor will just blend through. If you are going from a fruit flavor to a tobacco or desert flavor you may *want* to change your coil. Just pop the 1st coil in a pill bottle for use later. There are no hard & fast rules on this. It's all personal preference.

    Greetings,

the Nautilus coils are rated for up to 5V (~15W) for the 1.6 ohm coils and 6V (~20W) for the 1.8 ohm coils.

With that said the amount of flavor and vapor production is dependent on voltage, air flow and the makeup of the juice your using. (personally I did not notice much if any difference between the BDC and BVC's)

I've never used a CE4 so I don't personally know how the air flow compares to a Nautilus. The Nautilus does have an air flow adjustment, however even on its highest flow setting it may seem restrictive compared to other tank systems.

Generally (to a point) higher voltage equals more (and warmer) vapor and often more flavor. Some juices 'come alive' at higher voltage settings and others just start tasting singed, burnt or loose flavor. It ought to be noted that juices with high VG content may not wick well in a Nautilus tank at higher voltages.

I have a 1/2 dozen Nautilus tanks with various flavors in them. Switching between some flavors can be done without changing or cleaning the coil and others flavors might linger in the coil even after a good cleaning. (one of the reasons I have multiple tanks, I get bored with flavors fairly quickly)

Most of the juices I run in my Nautilus 1.8 ohm tanks are at a measly 3.5-4.5V, while you can easily get more than a "toodle puffing" experience on Nautilus tanks, I would not expect ginormous "clouds".

    I hope this helps.

In my opinion turning up the wattage/voltage doesn't always induce more flavor. It depends on the liquid itself. I have some liquids that get really vacant tasting the more I turned up the watts, and while providing less vapor produced a far more pronounced flavor at 7.5W than it did at 9 or 11W. Obviously taste is subjective, I have a neighbor that just got into vaping and she was raving about some liquid she put in so I had to give it a try. I immediately started gagging when I inhaled on her PV as it was dry hit city. I ask her to try it again and she did and no response, no gagging, she loved it. But I swear it was burning cotton.

Anyway, it depends on the liquid, some are more flavorful at lower wattages and some at higher wattages.

Your MVP should be both variable wattage and variable voltage. Since we usually ditch our coils before they get too bad I don't see much of a difference in using watts vs. volts since if I understand it correctly, you set the unit for watts and as your coil gets old the resistance goes higher so the variable watts keeps consistent with that where as the volts just stays consistent at the volts you set it to.

As far as the coil changing, yup I used to change mine anytime that I changed liquids, but if the coil was still good I'd just stick it in a ziplock baggie and write down what liquid was used in it and the date so that when I wanted to go back to vaping that liquid I could use the old coil (yeah, I'm cheap skate). You can use the same coil but only if the flavors compliment each other, like I was vaping something that is supposed to be like a maple syrup, then I ran out of that liquid and was too lazy to rewick my subtank so I just stuck in some salted caramel and it worked out great, I tasted the syrup for a short while and then the caramel and maple and finally now it's just caramel only.

I think the ones that I would change the coil every time would be any of the space jam juices, they're hellishly strong tasting and doesn't matter if I soak a coil in vodka for a month, that smell is not coming out of it. I've even made it so that any of the space jam juices only go into certain tanks that are reserved just for that, just like my needle bottles, some are reserved exclusively for their juices because the smell of them simply won't go away.

    Thanks for the replies :)

All this stuff is so interesting :)
Let me offer this up to you as a suggestion. Since you are a self-proclaimed newbie, you're likely trying to find the right juice flavor for yourself. I too have the Nautilus Mini, and use that for my favorite (ADV [all day vape] juice). For my novelty flavors or for the fun of it flavors, I use the Aspire CE5's from World of Vape at $3.45 each. The coils are cheaper and they vape very well, much better than the CE4's you've been using. I personally have never had much success in changing flavors without a thorough cleaning and a change in coils. As far as the draw (airflow), I used the CE4's with an Ego battery in the beginning and find that the draw on a Mini will be similar on the second from the smallest setting. Frankly, it's very close to a cig. Watts...most Ego's I've been told run around 3.3-3.5 watts. Play with you current battery to find your sweet spot. Just a little bit at a time. Don't get too hung up on numbers other than as a type of reference point for yourself. I say don't get too hung up on numbers only because I use the Eleaf iStick 20 and the 30. On the iStick 20 I run 6.8 watts, but one my iStick 30's I need 8.6 watts. Go figure.
