I know there's been discussions about this, but I'm kinda a newbie so I wanted to ask, nicotine does not cause cancer, and it has properties of a calming nature, maybe even aiding in mental conception analysis skills...should it really be entirely avoided if it can be delivered in such a low impact way such as the e-cig? I'm off nicotine in my juice all together, but I do find myself kinda "blond headed" at times, and wonder if the nicotine, even for totally non smokers, might tweak the mental skills, and not be harmful at all. I vape zero nic at the pool hall while gambling a little now, I used to chew, and almost eat analogs during play, and at the time I felt the real cigs helped me with my analyzing of the table, and the anxiety under pressure situations(POOL IS FULL OF ANXIETY.)

Since I don't feel that nicotine itself is physically harmful, why shouldn't I maybe actually use up all of the bottles of nicotine juice I have, and maybe even adopt nicotine as a daily nutrient?

Really, the more I read about it here, nicotine in itself isn't the true "monkey on the back" for wanting real smokes, so maybe nicotine itself has positives. Ideas? SB

Well, I have heard from a lot of people at the hospital I used to work at that nicotine does have carcinogenic properties, Though they are very low. I really don't think it is anything to be concerned about at all, but I'm sure it is inaccurate to claim that it "cant cause cancer"

That being said, I completely agree with you. I know for a fact that it stimulates the mind and helps thought process's, lowers stress and calms you. I would definitely say that it is something that will give one an advantage in life over others.

It would have to fall into that category where you decide is the pro's outweigh the cons. Like drinking wine daily (in moderation), its bad for the liver somewhat but the benefits are definitely there. I would not want to remove nicotine from my diet, even thought I am addicted to it.

But it ain't so good for the 'ole ticker:

"Nicotine has very powerful effects on arteries throughout the body. Nicotine is a stimulant, it raises blood pressure, and is a vasoconstrictor, making it harder for the heart to pump through the constricted arteries. It causes the body to release its stores of fat and cholesterol into the blood."

Also, it may not cause cancer, but it *may* interfere with your body's ability to fight cancer caused by other things:

"The currently available literature indicates that nicotine, on its own, does not promote the development of cancer in healthy tissue and has no mutagenic properties. However, nicotine and the increased cholinergic activity it causes have been shown to impede apoptosis, which is one of the methods by which the body destroys unwanted cells (programmed cell death). Since apoptosis helps to remove mutated or damaged cells that may eventually become cancerous, the inhibitory actions of nicotine may create a more favourable environment for cancer to develop, though this also remains to be proven."

I'd be careful quoting Wikipedia on this topic - I found that they have a tad of a problem with the holy NPOV (neutral point of view) when it comes to everything smoking-related.

Preferably quote their sources instead, I should say. Providing they are reliable sources, and not pharma-sponsored suicide-pill-advocating anti-smoker-sources.

Well, like I said, I'm not a doctor. That other thread was interesting reading. But note that the main conclusions found therein are *not* that nicotine is physically harmless.

Keeping in mind that I have no qualifications on the subject whatsoever and have done *very* minimal basic research, continue reading this post with that taken firmly into consideration.

Although I love (am addicted to) nicotine as much as most everyone here, I still see a problem advancing it as being healthy or good to use as a daily supplement, as proposed here. My common sense tells me that it *is* a powerfully toxic poison, and that despite whatever positive effects (mostly psychological) it does have, it's also bound to have (mostly physical) negative effects, particularly when used in excess over long periods of time. Sure it might have positive physical effects too, if you are using it to alleviate some specific physical ailment, but lets face it, most users do not fit into that category.

Clearly and indisputably, too much nicotine intake in a short period of time will (among other side-effects) cause your heart to race.. So it's making your heart work harder in order to pump the necessary amount of blood through your circulatory system. Being that the circulatory system in general, and the heart in particular are the "weak points" in human physiology, and they are subject to multiple other aggravating circumstances such as those from diet and stress, it can't be too good to further contribute to that unnecessarily.

There's pro's and con's to EVERYTHING. Trying to believe that there aren't any con's to a regular and constant dosage of a poison like nicotine, is stretching credulity just a bit too much for me and my common-sense BS detector - no matter how much I enjoy nicotine.

I enjoy my coffee a lot too, and I am not drinking that regular wick stuff but espresso kind. I have two espresso pump machines which will extract more caffeine from coffee beans than if you use regular drip type coffee maker.
During a day I do drink 4-6 espresso shots, which for a lot of people would be a little or a lot over board. And I have to have my last shot around 10 pm - otherwise it's hard for me to get asleep.

As we all know researchers might say that "Coffee (cafeine) is good for you" today but tomorrow they will back it up and will say "No, it's not good for you"

At this point there is no way to be sure that this drug/food/element in this particular quantities is good/bad for you.

But as yvilla said there are not a lot of studies were done on effect of nicotine along and ones that done pointed out that nicotine is ions times less harmfull if consumed/delivered along and not through smoking.

not sure if somebody has stated these things before me, but i didnt feel like reading all the way through everybodys posts.
Nicotine does not hold cxarcinogenic qualities, HOWEVER, if you ALREADY have cancer, nicotine speeds up its progression SIGNIFICANTLY... so if you know for a fact you have cancer, or don't know for a fact that you DON'T... maybe you should get checked out.
As we all know (or don't) Nicotine is a stimulating drug... and when used in low doses (as with the e-cig) will increase concentration and focus. In high doese nicotine will lead to loss of muscle control, decreased thought function, and possibly even death.

and +1 yes, asperin is bad for you if overused becuase your putting a straight up ACID into you body. Also can cause Reye's Syndrome if taken with a fever (will product similar symptoms to rabies).
