Advice For Drippers?

I've used cartomizers (SO MUCH MESS) and clearomizers almost exclusively since I started vaping. There are several reasons for this, but mainly, during the day I just want to pick up my PV and use it.

However, I want to have a drip atty for testing flavors, especially since I'm going to start mixing my own juice. tanks aren't really great for that.

I've tried one drip atty before and... it sucked. It was so much hassle, it was impossible to clean, and no matter what sort of settings I used it tasted burnt or it flooded. I couldn't just get a good hit, which really annoyed me and made me reach for my ViVi Nova instead.

I'm pretty sure the atty I had was bottom quality, but looking around at dripping attys it seems like ALL of them expect me to be making my own coils.

That's great, I'll probably do that at some point. But one thing at a time. I just want to use one right now, not mess with Kanthal and wicks.

What would you suggest for a minimal hassle dripping atty that I can clean between flavors easily and DON'T have to make all my own coils for?

EDIT:

Forgot to mention: I'll be putting them on an evic or an EVOD VV.

Most 510 atomizers around the 1.5-2.0ohms should work well with a VV battery.

I've had particular good vapes with the kidneypuncher.com long barrel 1.5ohm and the vapage 'shifu' atomizer. I do use them on bottom feed devices, so if you are using on an Evic or similar, I'd recommend either using a sealed 510 to 510 connector or purchasing a sealed atomizer (kidney puncher sell a sealed one, vapage do not) to prevent battery damage / mess / hassle.

I find both these attys give similar performance to an HH357 (which is about $23) for a lot less money. They are both easy to use with a simple blow out of the old flavor from the 510 connector end into a tissue, then refill and vape.

When flavor and vapor really reduce, you can soak them in alcohol for a few hours, clean them with baking soda, rinse in hot water or any combination of these things, then reuse.

I've had attys last me up to three months doing this.

Hi Jordan, I know you said you don't want to rebuild right now, just thought i would put my 2 cents in. Micro coils and nano coils, they hardly hot spot once you've pulsed and pushed them together and just put cotton around them. It;s really easy and the satisfaction of making a nice coil is brilliant. Another good thing is they won't be Sub-Ohm, Most of the time anyway, So they're safer than Sub ohms but boy they put out and perfect for a VV/VW device so no mechs with these builds, as for a starting dripper. I'd go for one of the two post IGO products, I had the IGO-L and it lasted me for about 3-4 months before i went ahead and got a Trident V2.

Good luck & Have fun

Thee's a slight learning curve to dripping. When you first start out, I suggest 2 things. Either grab a normal 510 atomizer with a bridge, or grab a 306. The bridge on the 510 holds a bit more juice than an unbridged so it is more forgiving if you over drip. The 306 you can actually dip into your liquid. It's almost impossible to flood that way. You can get a sealed 510 extender and a drip shield to help mitigate leaking.

Good luck.

I have 91% Isopropyl Alcohol that I bought for cleaning. But I wasn't aware that you needed to soak the components for that long. It takes a few hours to really clean them? Do you need to agitate them at all?

If you clean them regularly I would say a quick rinse in hot water and a gentle dry burn would be all that is necessary. There are some people that will shout at me now because I suggested a dry burn on a 510 atty - which almost all vendors recommend not to do - but it works for me.

Below is a video how to clean - it seems overkill to me, but a lot of people have done this method with excellent results.

MadVapes has both bridged and bridgless, and pretty cheap. Unless you become a dedicated dripper, they will do the job. I wouldn't look at other options unless dripping becomes a full time thing for you.

So things like a Phoenix or YK1 aren't worth it unless I'm willing to go full rebuilding, right?

And thank all of you for the help. I really appreciate it. Vaping is full of so many black boxes, and dripping is one of them left for me. :)

There's really no "full rebuilding". Either you're building coils (RDA's) or you're not. There's no middle ground. You can either get a 510/306 dripping atomizer, or you can get a rebuildable, but there really aren't any in-betweens. Pick up a few 510 dripping atties for a few bucks a piece, and if you like it, pick up something like an IGO-L. If you like THAT, then you can start looking for "fancy" RDA's... or stick with what you know. There's not much to dripping. See if you like it, and if you do, dive in. If you don't, oh well.

and here is how I set them up.

If you want to try dripping you can get a generic 510 atty from madvapes (or a bunch of other vendors) for around $4-5. If you wanted to try a rebuildable, then as someone else mentioned, the igo-l can be had for around $10-12. throw in a spool of 28 or 30 gauge kanthal from Temco for about $5 and some organic cotton balls from CVS for about $3. You can buy both - drip with the 510 while you figure out the rebuildable.

Total cost is less than $25 for the whole lot. The vape will be flavorful and plentiful.

Rebuilding is really not that hard. In fact I would say it's actually easier to build a touching wrap coil for a rebuilable dripper than it is to wrap a new coil for a protank. If you want to go down that route, one of the best videos I have seen is by fellow forum member superxdrifter.

By the way, I don't have the torch that he shows to anneal the kanthal, I just use a regular lighter to heat it. I also don't have the coil jig, a 1/16 drill bit works just as well.

Hmmm... I'm also looking to import this part, so I've had some trouble matching up atty's on sites suggested with fasttech and chinabuye.

Mostly because this part is something I need to start my DIY stuff, and I won't get all the stuff for that for about a month, so I can wait for the shipping, and the wholesale prices mean I can get more of them.

The SmokeTech 510s at MadVapes are the only ones I've ever tried.

If/when you do decide to get into rebuildable drippers, if you are still using an ego size device I would suggest an RDA such as the Igo S or the Squid. They have a nice small form factor & are made to be used with the smaller ego size batteries.

Thanks. My main PV is actually an evic VV/VW mod with an 18650 IMR.

I do have an "eGo style" battery as a backup though. Might use it as a taster?

The IGO-S, while a bit of a PITA to build, gives about the best flavor of any RDA I've used thanks to its small chamber.

I'm just really a big fan of those 2 atties as those were the 2 I got (squid first then Igo s & Igo S is my favorite of the 2) when I needed to test out flavors & it's just very nice to be able to pull the wick, do a quick dry burn of the coil & throw in a new piece of cotton & have a fresh new atty. I have nothing against the bigger ones like the Igo L. But for what I used them for those little ones have been great.
