Hi all! I've been stalking this forum for the longest time trying to learn as much as i can about ecigs and I finally got down to creating an account here :D

In any case, I really need some advice from anyone else who knows better about a good ego-style ecig. let me provide some info so that we can make this as productive as possible.

I'd been smoking for 8 years (a pack a day typically). Recently switched over to using ecigs, and I haven't touched a single cigarette in 4 months. I've been using cig-like ecigs only, buying a bunch from v2, magicmist basically. Also just switched over from cartomizers to clearomizers (currently Kanger's esmart clearos), and I never ever want to go near a cartomizer ever again. Unfortunately, the cig-like batts are awful for me. I typically go through 4 or 5 of them a day, and carrying all of them even with a PPC is just a pain in the .... vapor production is also. well. average at best. So I'm looking to try out and get a new ego-style starter kit. I'm not looking for anything advanced or intense: I just wanna charge my battery, fill my clearos, clean em out once in a while, replace the coils, and that's pretty much it.

I've narrowed down my choices to either the Halo Triton, joyetech's ego-C, and Kanger's evod. I've read a bunch, and it seems like the evod and ego-C are pretty much the same stuff: 510-egos, while the triton's different with the 808 connection. Really hoping anyone can recommend 1 of the 3, taking into account quality of hardware, vapor production, availability of parts like the clearomizers and replacement coils etc. cost is impt to me. so yeap.

p.s. Sorry if i'm posting this in a wrong section. This forum is HUGE and i get really lost in it.

you posted right, I would say go with the kanger evod, the battery is well made, dont listen to the fuss about the past batterys being faulty. Kanger took back those batterys and created newer and better versions, the evod tank itself is a bottom coil tank which is great on its own, this allows the liquid to flow straight down to the coil with no problems like a vivi nova is a top coil and you will have to tilt it to get liquid to wick properly. After a while you might see that the air flow is getting a little tight on the evod, just take a drill and you have 3 air holes on the bottom portion of the tank and use a 1/16 bit to drill those holes, this will give the perfect amount of airflow which will give you a better flavor and vapor production. Any store near you will sell the kanger heads for the evod or protank (yes they are interchangable) and I would recomend using the protank heads on the evod, the post is a little wider and will give more airflow. Also you will want to take a look at your liquids, if you are getting a burnt taste then you will want to open the evod/protank head and take out a flavor wick, the heads have 2 little wicks that sit ontop of the coil which has a wick in it. Just take off one and see how it is, if the problem continues then you need to take the second one out. You should have the perfect vape. I love my kanger products they are very intercangable to what you need or want. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I would go with a 510 connection over an 808 thread battery. Should you decide to experiment further later on, the 808 threads will restrict what you can try as there are far more attachments in the 510 connections which is far more popular.

As vaping tends to be a progressive adventure, most tend to not remain static and to keep moving up the vaping ladder for better if not bigger gear. I recommend the below setup of variable voltage ego batteries which will allow a huge improvement over fixed voltage batteries.

I can only pipe in about what I'm familiar with, but I'm familiar with a lot of eGos.

I would recommend the eGo-v V2 or V3 Mega. The V2 is variable voltage, and it's 1300 mah battery will last you all day long without charging. Even if you vape heavily, it's a passthrough design, you can vape on it while it's charging. This can be found on Fleabay for about 40 bucks, Fasttech has a nice starter kit for 21.78, but it'll be awhile getting here.

The V3 is like the V2 except it adds variable wattage to it's list of features.

Now as a (somewhat) beginner, I'm not recommending these to throw you into a lot of things that you wouldn't be ready for, but you are going to want a mod that's convenient, decently made, and versatile; those fit the bill. The features will give you room to grow as your knowledge and skills expand.

For tanks, I recommend any bottom coil design for the least fuss. I use Kanger Evods, but the choices are many. Kanger makes quite a few, my wife has a Vapeonly BCC Mega she's fond of, a lot of people like the Vivi Nova (although I hear they're cantankerous), all sorts of capacities, materials, Nd configurations to meet your needs. They're even rebuildable.

That's my :2c:

Here's a specific deal that's a good package - should be a big step up, and keep you going for a long while.
2 batteries, pick your own tops, and it's variable voltage, which you didn't mention, but which WILL take your vape to another level.

holy ........ didn't expect so many responses so quickly. I've been reading around in the mean time and it seems like vision spinner is really popular amongst the people here. I havent really heard of it.

Also I was set on not getting a VV ecig because I didn't wanna fret over messing with the voltage here and there and accidentally burning my coils. but now.... my resolve is wavering..

and the deal does look like it's got everything. except it's a solid 30bucks more than a evod start kit which comes with 5 replacement coils... oh gosh. decisions.

You won't go wrong with any of the advice given. All you have to decide is do you want the next step up, that being the Spinner which is really nice and holds alot of power. You can keep it at it's minimum setting and get good hits until you're ready to experiment. At least you'd be able to if you get the spinner :) I love mine. You can still use all the toppers mentioned and then some. Good luck and Happy Vaping :vapor:

I have 3 Vision Spinner Fatboys (1300) and 3 Minis (450 I think). The fatboys are great but the minis all crashed and burned. The wife liked the small batteries because they fit in her purse. At home, though, she has taken over all my mods, then walks around the house with them, ultimately leaving them in whatever room she was in. Then returns to my office to get another one. So I periodically have to go on a mod hunt (include the fatboys and EVOD batts). It is a fight to keep her hands off my Provari. I don't mind, though. As long as she leaves the Provari alone. I actually prefer the ego-style batteries. Mods tend to overcook the juice, even at very low voltage, particularly if I use tanks.

AAAAAAAAND IT'S DONE!

finally took the plunge and bought the starter kit from the website Train2 posted. 1x 1,300 mAh spinner, 1x 900 mAh ego c twist, 2x evod tanks, charger. With the cyber monday discount and shipping, that worked out to 65 bucks. Not bad at all!

Can't wait to see why everyone says VV blows fixed voltage out of the water for performance. HUGE thanks to everyone who helped out. No better way to start off my time here. :D :D :D
