Hi, Andrew here, i have been smoking for about 30 years, i was a regular smoker in my teens and 20's, i tended to smoke less as i got older but still couldn't stop when i went out for a drink, then about 30 i stopped going out because it just got boring, still had to smoke one or two before bed though as i couldn't sleep, then for the last couple of years(i'm 42 now) it has rissen to 10 a night, basically chain smoking for a few hours before bed, i have tried to quit a few times, the longest was 2 months last october, i tried my brother-in-laws e-cig last week and i think i can kick it for good if i get myself set up with one, it was more realistic than i could ever imagine, i am just worried now about the chain smoking, is it too late, have i done to much damage, will i recover like a regular smoker quitting? If you ask on other forums you just get dumb answers or people who wanna scare the ..... outta ya.

My opinion, but chain smoking 10 analogs (again in my opinion) still only makes you a half-pack-a-day smoker - I very much believe you can recover and heal like a 'regular' smoker quitting. There are literally thousands of stories that show how easy the transition from analogs to digital can be - GO FOR IT! I'll let the experts make technical recommendations, but I don't think it's too late...commit to quit, along with some e-cig help, I'm certain you'll be well on your way to recovery! BEST OF LUCK!

Truthfully, it sounds to me like your progression to more and more but still comparatively few smokes has been more a mental obsession or habit than a physical addiction. Were I in your shoes and had the funds to do so, I would pick up a few Njoys to try a few nights just to see if they substituted. I say that because of their form factor so similar to smokes. If they do convert you to vaping, then I would invest in a Joye Eroll kit... again, same form factor. Others will, no doubt, recommend larger form factors and pricier products but my reasoning is to stay as close as you can to a smoke because that's how your brain seems programmed right now and you can always go bigger later if you still choose to vape.

I agree with Cam, switching off of burning plant matter will be good for you. Just find the right flavors, nic levels and hardware that you're comfortable with. And if you chain vape, well, a lot of us do! No big deal.

Welcome, and good luck!

Be sure to come back and ask away. We were all noobs at first, and most of us who have benefited from ECF's wealth of information and support believe in PIF - Pay It Forward. :toast:

Hi Andrew,

The only worry you should have is if you can completely transition from stinkies to vaping. Your lungs will recover! I know quite a few folks who do both and slowly get off the analogs to make it easier. So you may want to consider that.

BTW, you can chain vape at night before you go to bed...won't hurt at all!

As far as making recommendations on equipment, sounds like your brother-in-law can probably point you in the right direction. If his worked for you, then go for it!!

I wish you all the best and much luck!!! You're heading into a growing trend that will make you healthier!!

I started vaping Oct. 1st, compared the two (an analog in 1 hand and an e-cig in the other :)) smoked about 1/3 of the analog and put it out. I was a 2+ Pack/day smoker. I just preferred the e-cig.

It has worked well beyond my expectations, and is fast becoming my new hobby. I really, really enjoyed smoking. But enjoy the whole vaping experience even more.

I started out with tobacco flavored juice at 18mg nicotine. That's kind of in the middle, nicotine wise. Next time I buy, I do think that I'll get a 10ml bottle of 24mg (NOT tobacco flavored, yuckie, IMHO) just to satisfy the very occasional urge I still get for an analog.

Long story short...It has worked WONDERFULLY for me!! Both my wife and Dr. are elated. It has been a Win/Win!:vapor:

wow, what a response, thanks all of you, i'm not sure exactly what my bro in law has but my niece gave me an e-health cig last night because she doesn't use it and she has lost the charger, but it's not the same as his. So i don't know whether to use that or look at other types, what is yucky about tobacco flavour? isn't that as close to a real cig? it's a bit confusing at the moment, the nicotene measurements are confusing too, can you have as much nicotene as you want, isn't it harmfull on it's own.

As others said, even your chain smoking was only half a pack a day, which is a good bit less than many smokers.

Your body will start to repair itself. But even if it would not, even in the worst case scenario, you'd still be improving things by not doing any further damage. That's why ECF members tend to measure success in how many cigarettes they don't smoke. :thumb:

No juice tastes exactly like burning leaves and paper-- even juices made from actual tobacco-- because vaping involves no burning leaves and paper. Don't spend a lot of time and money chasing that flavor. My advice is to seek flavors you enjoy, whatever they might happen to be, whether "tobacco" or tiramisu or hazelnut or watermelon or pizza or whatever. That way, when your taste for burning leaves and paper disappears, you'll have juices you enjoy. :)

the nicotene measurements are confusing too
Since you smoked half a pack a day, I'd recommend trying 12mg/mL (often written just "12 mg"). If you really need more, you can increase it. If it's too harsh, you can decrease it.

can you have as much nicotene as you want, isn't it harmfull on it's own.
Nicotine is toxic and even deadly in very large doses (innumerable substances are) and not particularly harmful in small doses (it's in eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes). It may even be beneficial in small doses.

Beyond that, I don't think nicotine has been sufficiently studied independent of tobacco products. You can find studies, and I do recommend checking them out, but I think it's early days yet. :)

You most definitely can switch to vaping even if you chain smoked three packs+ a day. I smoked a pack and a half of Marlboro Reds for over 21 years and the day I bought my first e-cigarette I completely quit. I would also chain smoke at night before bed (sometimes almost a whole pack at one sitting) and my transition was easy.
Don't worry and just do what works for you! You will find your way!

The hardest step is making the decision to make the change. Once you have done that you are halfway there!!
Good luck!!

Hello & welcome Andrew :)

I'm in my late 50's & used to smoke very heavily - on average 50 a day

I bought my first e-cig over 5 years ago & within a couple of weeks the improvements to my health, especially my breathing were astounding.

BTW I'm also in the UK & just to say that though the e-health e-cig may help you, it's really not worth you buying a charger for it as there are so many better e-cigs out there.

Here is a list of good UK vendors, look for something more cigar sized like an ego type kit -

Good luck man!
As I have stated in past threads, it was a seamless transaction for me.

Funny thing, a neighbor I have let me try his for a while and I was surprised to figure out that I took an emediate like towards the candy, fruity, sweet flavors. I generally don't vape tobacco flavors except for one, "karma" from esix vapors.

My wife no longer complains thank I stink like an ashtray, my teeth are getting whiter, I have more money in my pocket ( once you make the initial investment and a few options) and I am no longer weezing when I sleep.
And it's only been about two months.

I hope you have as much luck as I did.

I picked a starter kit up yesterday, saw one in my local ASDA for £5.99 with charger and 2 cartridges, it's tobacco flavour, i smoked it for about 20 mins last night and was satisfied and went to bed, trouble is i think i enjoyed it a little too much, i have been having a sneaky puff on it every now and then today too, question is now and it's one all the noobs probably ask, how safe is it, cos it's that good in my opinion that you start to think where's the catch?
