Hello all, just joined today and looking for suggestions on a burning question i have - namely how to get my mother (long time smoker) to give vaping a good try. She's had a few pulls of mine but not enough I feel to get a good sample.

A simple starter setup I think is required that would be unlike my starting experience. I stupidly bought one of those convenience store jobs and hated it straight away. Then went to the standard 510 starter kit and found it ... marginal and annoying to use. I'm looking for something that I can just leave conspicuously in her presence that is easy to use and gives vaping a good name. Something she will want to use for more than a day before deciding whether or not it is right for her.

Here was my first thought - i would give her my 510 auto batteries (meh) and a nice clearomizer loaded with a good baccy juice med strength...

I would appreciate any other suggestions for a great starter setup (doesn't have to be a kit, i can cobble it together) that avoids the common pitfalls of the lower end starters (leaks, poor vape production, low batt life, unattractive etc).

thanks muchly!

My daughter thought she'ld like some of the cig-a-likes. I gave her several set-ups to try over the last year.

What finally did it was a 650 mah Ego (good battery life without being big) and a CE4 clearo (easy to see when to refill without any thought or expertise).

Of course, it didn't hurt that it was purple! But, some of the other set-ups had been pretty and colorful too. So, pretty isn't good enough by itself. It just doesn't hurt.

A few friends were in the same boat. They bought Smokeless Image BUT they are 808 threading. When they visit, to avoid the hassle of filling, they prefill about 10 cartomizers and all the parent has to do is screw in a new cartos when needed. First week 1/2 of one carto had been used. After 6 weeks the parent was totally hooked on vaping...mainly because of the juices. They knew the parent liked desserts so they bought dessert juices. She's now filling her own and completely smoke free going on 3 months.

I don't have a lot of experience, but maybe an eGo twist with a nice clearomizer?

I've been using an a pair eGo C twist 650mah's with a Kanger EVOD on each for 3 days now and it's been working really well. It's bigger than a cig-a-like but it's not too big. Battery life is good and I don't have to refill it very often.

They come in wacky color's as well.

It isn't clear what her reaction was when she tried yours. But, if she has tried yours and didn't seem all that interested, you may have a tough time.

An alternative - and not a cheap one- is to get her some Njoy Kings.

They are the size and approximate weight of the real thing and they are quite well reviewed except price.

Going this route may overcome the reluctance of using e-cigs and later she may decide to switch to a rechargeble/refillable type kit.

I would say you would need to get her 2 x 10 pack. So it isn't cheap. Talking $170 for 20 of them and they may only last about 10 days or so if she uses them exclusively. But perhaps by then she would be willing to make a change.

Ah yes I should have mentioned. Her reaction was just neutral. I was using my 510 starter kit at the time and gave her a few pulls. She thinks its "interesting" but i wasn't impressed with that setup either. She's skeptical by nature, more so having tried the pantheon of smoking cessation awfullness available commerically.

ok so that's some votes for the ego/clearo route and some votes for the pseudo-analogs

I'm taking all this down for research so thank you all for your advice!

@junkman, the Njoys look interesting, I haven't tried them. If they are as good as the pricetag would indicate, they could be a good "bridge" thanks!

You can get one from their website "free" for $2.99 s&h if you want to try.

my conclusion was they are too expensive for regular use, but if they were priced reasonably I could see using them.

I put together a kit with 2 ego twists and a couple of vivi nova tanks for my nephew for Christmas. I also gathered several sample juices for him to try. I did not try to tell him to quit smoking, but told him it would be handy to have around for those times when he was broke and ran out of cigarettes...an emergency kit, if you know what I mean. (Of course, I knew he would be broke as soon as he spent all his Christmas money, lol) He called me up tonight with vaping questions. He has quit smoking and is now vaping exclusively. He has decided he's outgrown tobacco flavors and is ready to venture into the fruity flavors.

Personally, I think the secret to convincing a person to switch from smoking to vaping is to make them think it is their idea. Let them see the success you've had. Provide them with something simple to use. But don't try to push them into it.

That is a good approach. If you give them something and approach it in that way, or approach it as something they can use in the house when they don't wont to go out, etc. it doesn't put pressure on them to switch. But after a while if they like it they will likely switch.
