I don't use the ECF's search function all that much.

I like to do Google Site Searches by putting this after my Key Words. "site:www.e-cigarette-forum.com"

Then I can use the Date Filter Function.

Example

FDA Public Comments "site:www.e-cigarette-forum.com"

Yeah, what zoiDman said.

Little known feature of Google is the ability to limit a search to a particular site. Type:

site:e-cigarette-forum.com

before or after your search terms. The important bit is to run "site:nameofsite.com" together.

Like if you want to see what people are saying about the iClear 30S tank but only search ECF. You'd use:

iClear 30S site:e-cigarette-forum.com

or:

site:e-cigarette-forum.com iClear 30S

That limits the search to just ECF. Works like a champ. And Google's search abilities are better than what ECF can afford to put in. I mean, Google's search infrastructure is gajillions of dollars worth of machines and software. Insane amounts of computers. Mind boggling numbers. They talk about their computers in terms of "herds". One "herd" is 15,000 machines.

Urk!

(For the Sci-Fi geeks reading along, not too long ago I asked somebody I know who works at Google if anybody by the name of "Forbin" works there.)

Yes, it’s a good way, but far from perfect anyway. It looks only on thread names, does not search message bodies (iClear 30 may occur in any thread discussing clearos, but in won’t be seen by Google).
Can we have a perfect search in imperfect world?

Google? Oh they index everything. I found zoiDman's post like so:

Wow... I made Google. I guess I'm famous now? LOL

BTW - Doing a Google Site Search with your ECF User name is a Good Way to find Threads that you have Posted in.

Say I'm looking for that thread where Someone mentioned Taping Cartos to a Ceiling Fan? I might do a Google search for

Ceiling Fan zoiDman "site:www.e-cigarette-forum.com"

And Blamo, here it is...

it's never worked proper for me ... google actually pulls up what I'm looking for on ECF better.

That is so true. I google what I want to know & the search comes up with a post in the forum. If I search the forum, I often ponder what "kayfun leaking" has to do with yet another "what is your favorite juice?" thread.

Well, searching helps if you go to the sub forum that your question or interest lies. For instance, hmm, what's the best tank and dripper rba out now?. Wonder if there is something that can out perform or enhance my vape.

Well first got to rebuidable atomizer sub forum If looking for the latest and greatest rba's out, that's where they would be. Just cruise through there, will find lots of excellent Vape Investment opportunities. :D Last time I went to that sub forum cost me like $253. Fraking latest and greatest, comes at a price. lol

now if one is having a problem or question about a specific rba, then once on the rba sub forum, simply then use the search this forum, search engine. This will eliminate checking the whole ecf for the Russian or Erlkonigin . Often when looking for something that specific, will go to the advanced options first, and have it just search thread title, for query. This will cut way down on the pings:D

Also the same thing can be done inside of a thread, say looking for the something recalled reading, but the thread is huge, search inside the thread. This works great for doing a spot check on a thread, when looking for specific issues. Will quickly eliminate threads that don't even closely have the answer one is looking for.

Exact specifics usually makes for a much harder target, best to start general and the narrow it down.

Also say a specific member had a build you wanted to check out, well can then choose. search only posts from this member, or threads started by this member.

More than one way to search for a cat, or something like that:D

Use the same process for any issue question or interest, was just using and rba as an example. juice, DIY juice, wick, mods, regulated, mechs, batt's,.... they all have a section or sub forum. well mostly.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!

This place is too friendly not to ask a redundant question.:)

I just don't open posts that don't interest me.
Right on, Scout. [emoji3]

While I'm no Forum Virgin, I must say initially I was a little intimidated by the immense size of this place, the vast number of members, the HUGE glut of information it contained, and the strict guidelines (whaddya mean I can't cuss?!) I imagined to be enforced by Uber-Mods that would toss me out on my virtual ear if I so much as uttered 'shucky-durn'. [emoji39]

Y'all aren't so scary after all. This is a nice place, with like-minded people all after the same thing, a decent, legal Vape. While I've never asked a redundant question in a moment of panic (mouthful of juice, brand new Clearo that didn't work, juice that tastes like ...., etc.), some of the ones that I have noticed may have saved the asker some serious repercussions (like a trip to the ER) because they asked instead of searching while continuing whatever dangerous activity they were indulging in (excluding the troll asking about vaping NyQuil & Orange Lysol). lol

While searching using Tapatalk brings up massive amounts of info, 9 times out of 10 I get the answer I need, plus lots of other interesting stuff that may answer questions I didn't even know I had yet. [emoji1]
Thanks for being gentle to us excitable new kids. Your kind indulgence is appreciated more than you will ever know.

This isn't an encyclopedia it's a social forum dedicated to vape related topics.

Communication is involved.

If you are tired of seeing repeated questions then don't read those threads.

Any question is allowed as long as they follow the forum rules.

Absolutely.

Also, if you don't like seeing the same, basic questions come up repeatedly... why wouldja hang out in a section named "New Members"? That's kinda... um... less than bright mebbe? :D

Big place here, lotsa other places to visit after all...

I think some of it is vaping is so new, most everybody remembers being the overwhelmed, lost "noob". I've been tagged "veteran" by the software but that's for being around a year. I was the clueless new member less than a year and a half ago. That just ain't that long ago.

Heh, I've also noticed vaping is big among us "middle age" types who tend to view high school type "cliquish" stuff as tedious and exhausting. :D

(Seriously, vaping seems to have its greatest appeal among those of us who tried every, single New Thing that came along in "cessation" and turned out to not just be a failure but, in my opinion, a cruel joke. Despite what the rabid jihadists claim, I'd bet real surveys would show vaping skews older, not young.)

I'm not sure the intent of the OP's statement but it did come off as kind of mean spirited for a lack of better words. I lurked this site for a very long time before I became a member. A decision I am very happy I made. From the first day here I've had nothing but good advice, lots of laughs, and a great feeling of beening in a place where one can feel very comfortable expressing ones opinion and or advice. or even asking a redundant question.

People here for the most part are friendly, helpful and yes opinionated(?). If I had to do it all over again I would have joined when I first started vaping 11 months ago. This place to me is a part of my vaping journey and what ever keeps us off the cigs is all right by me!

Didn't bother reading the entire thread, if already mentioned then good show!

OP's advice to use search is good to a point.
Someone new to the world of vape will actually benefit from the spartan search abilities on ECF. It forces one to read a lot of posts in an effort to find a particular answer, along the way exposing the voyager to other topics they never knew existed.
Expands the horizon so to speak.

But.

Someone new to the world of vape will often not know what question to ask in the first place.
Often difficult to phrase a productive question if ya don't know the language.

And believe it or not there are many many people who have never before used an interwebz forum. Another new hurdle in that alone.

So by all means, new users spend time with the search function.
Even if ya don't find what your after the effort will be a learning experience in and of it self.

And then go ahead and ask that question that's been asked and answered a million times before.
There's generally more than a few forum members that understand and will help(-:

I'm thinking the OP was using the search recommendation as more of a helpful clue than a criticism. When I first joined here, would participate in this section but never started a thread unless trying to contribute to the forum. PIB so to speak.

When having an issue with something, no matter what forum you are a member of, the fastest way to get help is to go to an already active thread about that issue, part, .. and one has already found people who have the same thing, have gone through the same thing and will have pertinent answers. Will get a much faster and thorough response.

And quite frankly is really, really, outstanding advice and hardly a criticism. And from the prospective of one who does use search engines, it's more of a plea, please help cut down on redundant data inputs, it's bogging down my ability to quickly find what i am looking for. :D

A problem with many of the search functions on forums is they will display in the results all threads where any of the search words are found instead of just threads where all the search words are found. in some cases nothing is really found. Referring to an example above searching for nautilus burn taste will find many irrelevant threads. to find only threads where Nautilus and BURN and TASTE are found try using Google search and format the search search like this

Nautilus burn taste site:e-cigarette-forum.com

This will return a list of threads in Google's format where each of the 3 words of you search string are found and not those 1000's of threads where just burn or just taste or just nautilus are found.. Other search engines on the net may have similar functionality????? not sure. Anyhow I use this tip to find revelant search data on all the forums I visit and works so much better in my opinion
