I currently have an e cig on its way to my house but I'm not really trying to quit smoking just want to replace the habit with something like vaping but am wondering are they dangrous? I know the nicotine is bad but only on the same levels as caffeine but thats ok I can deal with that I just don't want to get cancer from vaping.

Granted there's no long term data, outside of users praising them and their improvement in health. But many studies agree they are far less harmful than lighting up a cigarette. Even if you don't completely switch, it's still harm reduction because that's fewer cigarettes you're smoking. And no, there is zero significant data that supports any claims of electronic cigarettes containing carcinogens.

Nicotine itself doesn't seem to be 'too bad' from what I've read.

Vaping is considered to be far, far safer than smoking and I personally trust the scientists who seem to conclude there is very little to worry about in respect to carcinogens.

The worst 19 cancer-causing compounds in cigarette smoke are not found in e-cig Vapour. That's good enough to me.

One of the scientific studies estimated at worst case scenario somewhere around 11-15 never-smokers would have to start using e-cigs to counter the benefit from 1 smoker switching to e-cigs from a public health perspective. Is it safe? What really is safe? Is it healthier than smoking? No one can be certain at this point, but it does look promising. Switch for a two to three months. I can tell you since I came back a month ago my lungs are already stronger.

Yes, there are minimal amounts of carcinogens if you vape your juice at very high temperatures and use certain oil-based aromas (WHO research, Fraunhofer Instutute research, Vape-Safe Aromas list), but the levels are really low and one can almot evade all the bad stuff if one vapes on regulated equipment, at reasonablevoltages, if you use only vape-safe aromas (or none at all , like I do) and no colorings at all. Always better to mix your own juice so you know all the ingredients you inhale and stay around 5 and 8 Watts (or likee 3.7-4.2V on a 1.8-2.4Ohm coil or so, there's a good calc for all the conversions). So yeah, if you don't push it, vaping is hundreds of times better than smoking.
