I started off with Kanger Protanks. Got a nautilus, full size and the mini and I'll never go back to the Protanks! I do have a mini Protank 3 that I absolutely adore! My Protank 2 and 3 leaked really bad and nothing I did would stop it.

I felt exactly the same way. I finally broke down and tried rebuilding my coil with cotton wick. WOW what a difference, and it wasn't as difficult as I expected. That stopped the leaking. Don't throw them away....really! I finally just picked a day to try re building as a micro coil with cotton wick. Completely different tank. I was ready to throw my Protanks out the window.

I also agree the mini PT never gave me the leaking problems....and my wife primarily uses that tank now. It is as reliable as the day is long. It also saw the benefit of my rebuild with cotton though...and we're happy campers.

If you just do not want to wind coils, then I agree the protank is a leaking hassle. The mini is solid.

Just ordered an Aerotank Mega V2 off of ebay for a whopping $20 shipped.

I got an eleaf istick this morning and threw a Kanger Aerotank I had laying around. What a nice vape. I actually put a single coil protank head in the aerotank and I'm getting great flavor. The AeroTank mega looks like a good upgrade because of the added eliquid capacity. Not saying it's gonna replace my Reo but damn, this little combo sure is convenient and easy to use. I'm liking it so far.

Really? I love my Aero Mega.
I'm really thinking about picking up a Nautilus, though. If juice master thinks it's a good tank, it must be a good tank!

+2 on the nautilus. i have had zero problems with mine. best price i've seen them is at world of vape and it includes two of the bvc coils, not bdc.

Are you getting any leaking with single coil tank in the aero tank?

I bought one when it first came out. It makes massive vapor. I don't think this is what I would call a flavor chasing setup at all. My biggest gripe with it is the flimsy ring that attaches the base to the top. I have had leaks. Overall, my curiosity caused me to buy it, but I would not recommend it.

My two cents - the turbo isn't something I would want. The stock coils are bad, so putting two of them in a tank can only be 2x worse.

Meg brought me over to the dark side of Kanger rebuilding, and I've been hooked since. I get very enjoyable performance from two Aerotanks that I use. I have never tried a Nauti, but I would guess the stock coil performance is better. I've also never built a coil for one, but I've heard it's more difficult than building Kanger heads. For potential of rebuilding, and for usable stock coils I still recommend the Kangers to folks. But that Turbo - eh..not for me at least.

Question for my coil building friends...how do you know when your coils need to be rebuilt and how often should you re wick them? I've posted this question in other parts of this forum but only have been given are you stupid answers.

For me it's two things so I'll answer them separately.

When I need to re-wick is determined by how hard it is to draw good juice into the wick so it doesn't give dead hits. Sometimes it is every two tanks worth of juice, sometimes the wick could hang on for days. It just depends on the flavor. If it is only a ghost of the juice's flavor potential I re-wick. Cotton is cheap. ;)

When a coil is dead it just starts tasting ...well, gunkie, like it needs to be dry burned and re-wicked but if you have just done so, pull the head and set it aside to rebuild and grab a new one. That is usually about every 6 tanks or so or every three dry burns... I have a nice stash of heads I've made in advance waiting so can do that easily. That way if my left hand isn't cooperating (like today...) I can still vape even if I can't rebuild my coil right away. I have 8 waiting to be rebuilt which I hope to get to this weekend. :)

Hope that helps! :thumb:

Yeah what Meg the Don of GCD and PT rebuilding said. :)

On my own cotton wicks in my AT I get 2-3 tanks (2ml each) before the juice isn't worth the squeeze so to speak. By this point there's some gunk on the coil and the juice (especially noticeable if it's clear) will have started leaching some color from the gunky coil. I could keep going with it, but prefer to have a nicer vape so I will switch out the head at this point. Unlike Meg I haven't been dry-burning and re-wicking on the AT. I just build a fresh coil and wick outright. Really though you could take a coil out quite far if you are gentle with re-wicking. The coil itself doesn't really degrade afaik - it just gets dirty and most or all of that gunk can be burned off.

When I was using the stock coils I would take them out further than 2 tanks. A week or about 5-7 tanks was more the norm. But I think that now I would probably stick to 2-3 tanks on stock coils too. If I recall the stock ones were getting crappy after a couple of tanks too I just tried to make them last longer because they were so darn pricey. Now it's just some time to get a better head. Wire and wick are pretty cheap and I have wads of them both now. ;)

One final note - be careful when dry burning on an AT/PT head. If the legs are at all hot you can burn that insulator that the legs pass through.

Yeah, I'm just talking about my PT coils as it gets the most use. My Dibi's and my Reo coils last a month or more. Wicks (rayon) last weeks before I have to change them out. Same priciples apply however. I'll reach for one of them and squonk and it just tastes off so I dry burn, re-wick and go. If it still tastes muted or "dead" flavor wise or minimal vapor I'll rip it all out and rebuild.

Thinking about it some more and I usually re-wick/dry burn when the cinnamon disappears in my GCD....it seems like it become just frosting and a tiny amount of pastry, not a nice yummy GCD. For my Reo, which always holds Roundhouse, it's when it goes somewhat sweet and one dimensional. GCD in 2nd Dibi is the same as the PT, it just goes dead. Dibi #1 is CBWE and again no CB then the cool goes too then I re-wick. I suppose everyone's answers are so wimpy because it really is a taste thing and personal preference...In other words you will come to know the ways of the force (of re-wicking and/or re-coiling....lol)

So if you want to know when it's time to re-wick just always run GCD. So says The Don! ;)

Quick question, I haven't used clearomisers since the first protank which was around 18 months ago, but I still have around 5 of them and a bunch of heads, is it worth making my own coils for these or not?

Absolutely! The re-made heads are such a game changer that the taste is night and day!

And PM me if you want my photos on how to recoil PT heads or there are great videos on this on youtube. Personally I need photos to see if my attempts look right. Videos go too fast for my wonky eyes...

I think I'm gonna give it a go, I watched someone do it on youtube and it looked pretty easy. I generally do my buildy stuff on Mondays, I take over the kitchen table and do my building whilst listening to the VP Live podast so I'll give it a try, if you have any advice I'm all ears.
