Hi,
Relatively new to the rebuildable thing, just got a AGA T2 rebuildable last week. Reviewed the videos and spent a good 5 hours and 4 tries to get the wick rolled up. Got the coil set pretty quick and fired her up and had the most awesome vaping experience I've had yet. This lasted about 4 refills (just under 5 days).
Then I figured, I need to get some experience in rolling these mesh wicks. So I decided to roll another one, and get it setup. This one went much much smoother, but now i'm having a pretty serious wicking problem. I get a decent, not great, vape for about 2 or 3 hits - then dry vape.
I've re-checked my setup and even attempted to remove the fill screw to see if that was causing an issue; It helps only slightly.
Then I moved on to the SS cable wick. Currently using a 7x7 3/32" wick. This is supposed to be, and I can visually see the superior wicking actually happening. Now, I get good flavor, but a weak vape (poor vapor production). Even when tipping or vaping horizontally, after about 2 or 3 good hits, I get a dry vape.
What am I doing wrong?
The first setup was completely sealed; meaning fill screw was tightened down, everything was pretty tight. The first setup actually produced excellent vapor and amazing taste. Now I have a meh vapor with great taste. Thinking it was wicking, I went back to my original wick and have the same problem all around.
For the info:
First setup: Used the included SS mesh that came with the AGA-T2. Rolled it up, oxidized the wick 3 times, did a 6/5 wrap and got a 2.2ohm coil. Evenly spaced, hotspots gone and no hot legs.
Second setup: 500 SS mesh rolled as tight as I can get it (still a very small hollow tube in the middle) Oxidized wick 3 times, 6/5 wrap got a 2.2ohm coil. More troublesome coil setup this time, more hotspots, but eliminated hotspots, got both legs to cool during dry vape, heat starts at center coil and moves out.
Current setup: 7x7 SS Cable Wick. Oxidized/Torched and cooled 3x. Wrapped tip in 400 SS mesh Have a 5/4 wrap and 1.9ohm coil. Took some serious setup to get coil evenly touching SS mesh, hotspots dissipated and legs are cool. Even at 10W even heat across the coils and no glowing legs.
I had a good setup with the first attempt, everything was sealed. Even had my roomates commenting on the impressive clouds I was wafting in the living room. However, now it takes a super deep lung hit to get any real sizeable vapor production and it's relatively weak. Flavor and TH otherwise are awesome.
I have tried multiple voltage/wattage settings on the eVic. Down as low as 5watts and all the way up to 10 watts.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you might have!
[Edit] Forgot to mention using exclusively 32g Kanthal A1 wire for coils. I have 28g Kanthal A1 as well, but too low resistance for the evic [/Edit]
