AGA T2 Wick Hole Enlargement Problem

I am really curious as to how anyone is able to drill out the wick hole on these new Agat2's (the ones with 3 phillips screws and the clear silicon ring cushioning the pyrex tank). I saw in one other thread a few months back that they had gotten it milled at a machine shop. That would cost me $30 here at the shop i went to, total waste as it is a 22 dollar atty. If any has experience with enlarging this wick hole, please share and include pics if possible. i dont see any way to just drill it myself without ruining the center tube connection running down the tank. Thanks

Hold it tightly and drill slowly, it's not that bad. Just make sure you are using the correct kind of drill bit

I walked the diameter up, start small and get big, easiest way to do it without a drill press

will give it a shot. i already have it at 7/64 about (fits in about half way), i'll drill it out to 7/64 then 1/8 after. thanks

I didnt drill out my AGA because the cable rope fits perfect,even tho the hole is less than 1/8,the cable fits because the cable is just a tad small,.100/inch.I f you want too use cable later you may have a hole too big.

do i need special cutters to use cable rope? i would imagine a scissor wouldnt cut it. also where did you get your rope? thanks

You need heavy duty pliers and a strong hand,i trap the rope in pliers and whack it with a hammer.

The 3/32 in fits the AGA perfect and in the RSST is a tad small but ok,7/19 refers too the strands,meaning 7 main strands with 19 more strands in the 7,this is what you want,it a fine weave.

You only need a foot,its dirt cheap.80 cents/ft,you need a small wrap of mesh on the top of the SS rope so its smooth to wrap,the rope is not perfectly round.

thanks a lot! i actually called the place, it is 15 dollars to ship to NY! so i think i have to look closer to home, perhaps in an actual store, dunno where i can find this cable. marine grade means it is not galvanized, correct?

McMaster-Carr ---this is a good place for wire rope just make sure you torch it til it glows. I cut mine with a dremel or a pair of dykes with the aid of a vise.

Be careful,some SS rope has a nylon strand tru the center,it can be removed or torch the hell out of it,mine didnt.

Its the good stuff 316 grade which is same as surgical steel,ask them too make sure its the exact sze you are ordering cause mine was all a tad bigger and my 1/8in wound not fit my RSST,i ended up using the 3/32in for both the RSST AND THE AGA.
