Might be wrong but if I remember right, the oak adds tannins to the finished product.
I mainly posted to say, I would love to try a mellow fruit flavor vape that had been steeped in an old oak barrel that had previously aged some Kentucky bourbon whiskey!
Possibly to give it a truer bourbon flavor? Does that mean they burn the barrels? That's the difference between straight whiskey and bourbon whiskey. They burn the barrels to give the whiskey a more smokey flavor.
I haven't tried anything barrel aged, but I have been interested in them for anwhile. Have used the oak spirals used for wine and beer making to "oak" some custard juice that I have. It works really well.

I was fortunate enough to procure a 30ml VCT special reserve forma company in southern ca. Vanilla custard tobacco steeped in an oak barrel for two months. Very nice flavor. Smooth & creamy with a woodsy tobacco flavor on the exhale. Grab one if u can find. They only make 500 or so each year
