Oh I can cite several instances of the power of suggestion convincing people that they taste/smell/see/hear what isn't there. Obviously there are limits as even your experience with PUSD proved. Interestingly, you did indeed taste fruit though didn't suspect you weren't vaping Desperado and definitely didn't pinpoint the prominent flavor in the profile: pineapple. The mind is super impressionable. And I mean all minds, not yours. Nothing to be ashamed of at all in that incident, as it could and probably has happened to all of us. I'm not trying to diminish your perspective on five pawns either -- only riffing on a topic close to my heart. I first tried them about a week or two into this, and I know for a fact that the fantasy they work to produce through packaging and product description served its purpose with me. There I was, self conscious about being clowned by scientist pals for inhaling unknown and unregulated compounds -- "smoke juice" -- which was already a running joke among them, and 5P arrives looking like top shelf scotch and sounding like a tasting menu at Alinea. It provided the legitimacy I needed then. Later I tried the same steeped samples and decided I didn't like any enough to buy in bulk. Anyhow, while I agree that suggestion alone won't allow you to taste shrimp scampi in a menthol blend, it can theoretically convince us we're tasting two types of extracted vanilla bean when all there actually is a budget baker's trusty bottle of imitation. Especially when we've paid well for the experience.

Random aside: Mentioning Alinea spurred a thought. Will we one day see a tasting menu restaurant like it offer custom blend vape pairings per course? I'd love that.

Lots of excellent and interesting points there, and I do believe you're right. On so many levels the mind can convince us of things that aren't necessarily real. It's no doubt why a meal can taste extra good when you're sharing it with someone special. It can even seem magical. Later, if you eat there again, it never quite lives up to that night.. I was recently in Paris and I couldn't get over how the compaillette tasted like no bread I had ever had in the U.S. I wondered if it could be local ingredients, the Parisian air influencing the crust - all sorts of fanciful theories. In the end, I'm sure it was just my frame of mind, and little more. I guess that's all fine. Whatever makes our experiences more enjoyable is ok by me. I guess I don't mind deluding myself somewhat. I cling mostly to science in terms of my beliefs, but I'm by no means immune to a little romance!

What a way with words, Mozzer. Does your career involve that?

hrm.. sadly no, but thank you. I'm just a garden variety propeller-head  The first half of my career was in architecture, but on the technical side. I did computer-aided design & drafting and managed their CAD systems. I was never really a designer, though, just a technician. I was fortunate to be involved in some great projects, and did a lot of drawings for high-rise hotels and the like in San Francisco. There's no doubt that so many years of hanging out with architects influenced my tastes. Nowadays, things are less glamorous and even more technical. I'm with a software engineering firm making security related products. No, we're not complicit with the NSA heh oi. It's all very boring really ;) It does keep my mind busy and challenged, and that's a very good thing for me.

Nicely put. If you see magic, don't bother breaking the spell. I'm usually most intent on seeing behind the stage specifically when the magic act didn't seduce me. And hey that compaillette could've come from a 300-year old starter!

FP: Gold Member is CANDY!!! Pure, dark, sweet, salted caramel! Caramel Eureka!

I love having scores of Ahlusion 10ml bottles on hand, so I can have frequent flavor breaks in between my EDV vapes . . . I expected Gold Member to be just another yummy 10ml flavor for me.

But NOOOOOOO, it went almost immediately (well, after 4 weeks' aging!) to 30ml bottle status for me! It is the ONLY non-tobacco I have in my 30ml bottle arsenal! :)

merde!! I chose Car-Mal Mambo over Gold Member cos someone gave it the nod. You have me almost regretting that call. Well, it can't hurt to have both, can it? Seriously, your description is really appealing. I feel another order brewing.. It's getting obscene, though. Takes me 1/2 hour fishing through all the Ahl's bottles trying to find the one I'm after! Ok, I'm exaggerating :p

Im going to have to revisit that one mine didn't last past 3 weeks
I'm sure it develops much more with a longer steep

Ok, it's a fairly hyped juice: "reserve" by request, or select sellers, and all that. A lot to live up to. So does it?

When you first crack the bottle open, after taking it out of the canister (always a pleasure in my book. Guess I'm a packaging ho. Feel the same about Apple's - go ahead flame your worst :p ), the nose is incredible. Every bit what you'd expect from the tasting notes. The coconut first, the vanillas, and some very pleasant bourbon at the back of your sinuses. So far so very good.

The vape: even better. Like the nose but evened out, with the almond coming into the picture. Coconut subdued now, very wisely cos it can easily dominate a juice. Not sure if I can distinguish the two vanillas but they blend into a unique vanilla. The bourbon finish only occasionally teasing your taste buds and your nose. Far from boozy. At the end all of the flavors lingering on your tongue, so in between pulls is just as enjoyable as the vape.

Yes, I'm gushing, but this juice deserves it. It reminds me of when I tried Gambit for the first time. Will CLR have legs, like Gambit? I'm pretty confident it will. Perhaps it's not for everyone. It's got a fairly sophisticated, "grown-up" air. I know. That sounds ridiculously snobbish - sounds like I'm fluffing myself for liking it, but I don't know how else to put it.

end :offtopic:

Edit: I always "bounce" new flavors off Smooth Criminal, largely cos I'm always vaping it anyway. Can't seem to stay away from the stuff. Well, SC right after CLR is fantastic. It truly is. It really pulls the tobacco forward and meshes very well with the lingering flavors. I'd say that's a nice bonus!

yea that sounds good probably something I can vape from time to time when I want to relax kind of thing

Mozzer, you try the Dulce Cubanito? This one is never discussed. I don't know why. My first bottle arrived a few days ago and it already tastes terrific. It's too soon to say, but I might have another top tier Ahlusion in it. It definitely strikes me as something you should snag along with the Mambo.

I have not tried it. It caught my eye a couple of times, but cigars are iffy with me. Not even sure why I associate cigars with it. Heh what's a Cubanito? going back to read about it...

Edit: doesn't really say much, but the photo is intriguing. No reviews, either. I have a feeling I might like cigars, if I ever found a good one. Don't know anything about them. I used to enjoy pipe tobacco. North Sea, I think it was called, from Tinderbox. Totally different animal than a cigar, I'm sure.

Never heard of 'em, haven't had 'em. But the vape is... I'm at a loss for words with it, actually. Not sweet or candied, straight tobacco fix without tasting ashy (let's not return to my aromatic rant) or synthetic. A little like Desperado but more pronounced. No alcohol or perfume. In a pinch I'd say it's what Halo *wants* to pretend they sell with half of their tobacco blends.

haha! aromatic rant! Desperado has been interesting for me. It's hinting at something really nice. Did you let it steep long? (I'm not apologizing for using that term dammit!) I wonder if you're the one who got me to try it. will have to read back. I'm certainly curious about Dulce Cubanito now. I wondered if Dulce was related to Dulce de Leche, and and as such hinted at caramel, but I'm guessing not.
