Thought I'd email them ahead of time to find out if they were cool with it. This is the reply I got:
Thank you for your email in regard to the use of an eCigarette onboard your Air New Zealand flight.
Air New Zealand policy prohibits the use of the eCigarette at any time on board the aircraft, due to the lack of social acceptance around smoking and possible pollutants that the device emits.
The vapour may contain levels of nicotine that are unacceptable to other passengers.
In order to assure the comfort of the majority of our passengers, the use of eCigarettes is not permitted by anyone on board any of our aircraft, at any time.
Disappointing response but there is always smoking in the bathrooms as an alternative.
