In a month or two, Mom will be flying back to visit friends and family. When she left to live with me, she was still smoking cigarettes.

I need to set up the easiest thing I can for my brother and sister to maintain Mom's vaping. Don't want her to go back to cigs.
I am planning to send a bunch of filled carto's, batteries and chargers.
So all the have to do is change carto's and charge batteries.
In case she runs out of carto's, I thought I would send some e-liquid and instructions on how to refill cartos.
Do the airlines have any problem with e-liquid in luggage? I don't think I would do it carry-on, but check in.
Could she have a charged battery and carto in her carry on so she could use it on the drive back to their homes......100 mile drive.
That way they would not have to dig through her luggage.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

dont check in any cape gear into luggage. store it all in carry-on. otherwise you can kiss it goodbye. the security folks will ask to see it, but that should be it. if it's in checked luggage, it will probably be confiscated.

tanks should be empty, cartos can probably be filled, but packed them in a zip lock bag. any bottles should be clearly labeled, the manufacturer's is best. most TSA peeps know what e-cigs are and are pretty tolerant.

best place to check or search is on the General Vaping forums, there's a lot of discussion about this very topic including from people that have had varying levels of success with air-travel.

Doc, I really like your idea!!

I know my comment is not directly referencing to the information you first wanted to know, but there have been so many changes in recent years to something that used to be simple as airplane travel, IMHO, if there is a way to transport/transfer absolutely harmless articles that might otherwise send the TSA into some sort of tizzy-fit and get those items confiscated, I would do the same thing without hesitation. Vape gear is small enough that quite a bit of it can be packed into a relatively small Priority Mail box, and arrive at your brother's home in plenty of time for mom's visit! I say, win-win all the way around!

I'm just worried that if a TSA person confronts my mother about anything, she won't have the ability to respond properly, since she has some dementia issues.
From what I have noted on some forums, TSA routinely trashes things they find in the bags that are checked in and they are not sure about them.
Priority mail seems like my best bet.

I travel for work every few months. I put everything in my carry-on. I remove the batteries from my mods and put them in battery cases. You are allowed 100ml of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes. They just need to be packed and labeled per TSA guidelines, 3-1-1 Liquids Rule | Transportation Security Administration.

Why do you say they have to be labelled? I don't see anything about labeling in the TSA guidelines. I put my shampoo, conditioner, and gel in unlabeled travel bottles and have never had to identify them. I'm on vacation now and I brought a bunch of eliquid in travel size bottles in a quart ziplock bag (along with Visine and contact lens rewetting drops) that I took out and put in a tray at Security without any problems. I put labels on my eliquid but it was for my benefit, not the TSA's. They have no right to confiscate eliquid - it's not illegal and we live in a free country.

The only thing that was a hassle was that all of my eliquid was originally in glass bottles and I had to pour them into plastic bottles.

I think mailing it ahead of time is a great idea. Then they can have one put together and ready for her when she gets in the car. good thinking

I think so too. Although from what I read, the chances are low that there would be a problem with carry on or check in baggage, I don't want to take the chance.

I've done a lot of travel and never had questions about vape gear. Keep batteries in carry on. Juice in ziplock bags in carry on or checked bag. Air pressure change may cause attys to leak, so be careful of that (not sure about cartos).
I've flown through AUS and SLC several times and a few trips through Medford OR, and LAX.

Cartomizers won't leak on a flight because eliquid is suspended in the filler material and the atomizer is not dependent on air pressure like a tank. I love GP Spheroids for air travel (an RBA that also uses filler material and is not dependent on air pressure).

I clean and wick my KFLs and pack them empty for a flight. Good advice about putting batteries and mods without batteries in carry on luggage. I have a Cigar Caddy that I put my mods and KFLs in and I put it in a tray (along with my quart Ziplock bag containing eliquid) at Security. TSA agents usually ask what it is and I'll casually and briefly say it's a personal vaporizer and move on.

I usually travel with one or two setups fully assembled in my pocket. I put them in through the scanner with security, and have never had a problem. This month when traveling to Slc from AUS for work I had a Kayfun fully loaded on the flight to and from, when you get on the plane just make sure it is inverted so any pressure built up durning flight can escape through the juice channels. Same thing with any bottom coil clearomizer. I've never had a flooded tank when following this. Traveled with pro tank 2s, evods, kayfuns, and the like. I never check mods or batteries. Not saying it's right or wrong, just what I've done. I know TSA says don't check batteries, keep them out of the device when possible, and in your carry on. I'd say have her keep them in her purse if there is any chance she will be getting on a smaller plane where they make you gate check medium sized carry on luggage.

I plan to send just carto's and some extra juice just in case my brother has to refill any.
Another kind member of this forum is sending me some extra Tribeca pre-filled carto's that she is not needing any more, so now I will have enough for a two week stay (unless Mom increases her daily usage, and that's why the extra juice).
Perhaps I may send a G6 with her in her purse.
