What tank or topper where you using before that makes you find the PT2 too airy? Also, what is your PG/VG level of your juice? If you have a higher VG level, sometimes the PT2 can't wick fast enough and there are some fixes for this. Also, what is the voltage/wattage setting you are currently using? This could also effect your vape.
Get a tank airflow controller they are around $3.00 I got one I use with my pro tanks and it works pretty good I just adjust the screw up or down depending on how airy I want my draw to be at the time. Just search google for tank airflow controller you can get one at a lot of juice supplier websites.
Be sure that your wicks have been saturated (you've let them sit) for about 10-15 minutes before vaping on new heads. Depending on the resistance of your atomizer heads 4 volts might not be high enough for you. And remember, with APV's that have both variable wattage and variable voltage settings, you can EITHER change the volts or the watts, not both.
Careful removing a wick as it could cause it to flood.... As for the top pin you can pull it straight off with a slight wiggle. YouTube dry burning a ProTank 2.
I second this. I rebuild all my kranger products with cotton wicks. Just makes for a better, more consistent, vape. That's just my preference though and it's all subjective.
This is what I use to restrict the airflow on my PT1 - no joke. The hole is the perfect size to fit around the connector; they can be layered if more restriction is needed; they are smaller in diameter than the base of the tanks, so the edge isn't visible when you are using them and you can get 1,000 for about $5.
