I’ve just got back into DIY again after several months of buying commercial and I can’t seem to make anything that not tasting overly sweet. I did buy a my VG from a different vendor this time, still medical grade though. Are some VGs sweeter than others?

I have even resorted to leaving any sweeteners out of the recipes and mixed today using a 40/60 mix to reduce the amount of VG I’m using (haven’t tried those yet) but I’m reluctant that because of increasing harshness.

Can you post which recipes you have tried? even a screenshot will do. VG is slightly sweet, and some flavours do have a sweetness about them. But it would help to know what flavours you are using

There's your answer. Try subbing out the creams for a plain cream like Hangsen and choose one cookie, maybe try a plain butter. Could also add some boysenberry, blackberry, or blueberry for a distraction. Might try the oatmeal cookie with blueberry muffin and caramel butter.
My taste buds seem to go through this every few months since I started diy. You will just have to adapt your recipes accordingly, it's not the vg.

I understand how you feel. I don't like overly sweet either. I'm so worried that mixing so many flavors will just keep adding sweetness. Right now, I'm trying Purilum "cookie"... supposed to be like a shortbread cookie and not too sweet. Others (like Letitia) have given good tips about which creams to use (I was going to try "vanilla swirl" but found out it's way too sweet for me) Just because a certain flavor is popular might fool you... many people love sickly sweet (even adding extra sweetener) I've even use some plain graham cracker because it's not really sweet at all. I try to read reviews first... can't post the link here but "it" has the word "red" in it ;) Found a really mild cinnamon that way (FA cinnamon ceylon if you want to add a small bit to bakery/deserts) I'm still just learning... many others here with lots of experience. The ironic things is I love the sweetness of VG itself.

I just mixed up 1.5% biscuit, 1.5% cornbread and 1.5% butter at 70% VG and tasted with my finger and it tastes very sweet. Haven’t vaped it yet but I suspect it’s going to still be too sweet.

it just seems so odd to me as I used to add good amounts of sweeteners to my mixes and it was fine, now I’m not adding any at all and it’s too sweet.

Are food and beverage tasting sweeter as well?

Then I'm guessing that your taste buds are just getting more sensitive to sweet notes. Might be worth trying some ultra concentrates the are used at very low %. That or try adding something like VT sour lemon. Another strategy is vape some straight fruits and mints to reset your palate, then go back to the sweets for a time.

But I tasted my VG and yes, I think if I vaped it straight with no flavor it would be too sweet for me right now. I am diluting it with the 100mg 50/50 nic base and 30-40% pg and the flavoring though lol. I’m sure it’s just me, but my husband is also saying things are too sweet, but he just started vaping more again and still smoking so he doesn’t have much to compare it to. I don’t know, but I miss loving my vape!

What brand is your vg, also soy or palm based? It actually could be the vg if your husband is having the perceptions.

Interesting, I assumed it was medical grade, it’s food grade, from Liquid Nicotine Wholesalers. I checked the label and no where on there does it say what it’s made from so I’m assuming it’s palm based but I don’t like that the information isn’t listed. I’ll be ordering something else as soon as I get a few extra dollars!

That's the vg I'm using and don't find it sweet once mixed and I am max vg with 7% dw. I do tend to use tart flavors though. I honestly think it's your flavors. The recipe you posted most all the flavors have sweeteners and/or EM in them.

If you haven’t yet, find listings for some of the flavors and see if the ingredients are given. I don’t think there used to be so many with sweetener added as there are now. I also suspect that bakery is the worst offender, because they’re often more complex - cheesecake flavor seems to have a lot of sweeteners, where graham cracker not much, if any, and my guess is that’s due to complexity.

When I need a break from all the sweetness I go with toasted almond, maybe hazelnut, stand alone. I’d love to find a good coffee too.
