And when you go to the store, everything looks like a potential mod project too.
(I caught myself in Walmart looking at a cordless toothbrush the other day).

Edit:
That reminds me,,,
You know that the toothbrush was invented by an old guy from Arkansas don't ya?

Otherwise it would have been called a teethbrush.

OK back to serious for a bit.
Do me a favor, Make up a quick new cap for the top of your genesis with some clear tubing so that you can see how much condensation that you get when you get it vaping. I'd like to see what others are getting.
This is what I got after 6 hits (and that was yesterday. It hasn't evaporated any).

Ok, I can remember somebody having trouble with conductivity on the S/S mesh wick (after oxidation) a few pages back. I had the same problem - but only on the edge of the mesh. I'm using a #325 btw. I found that before you start coiling the mesh, it helps if you make a fold on both sides of the mesh - about 1mm or so (I used tweezers) - that prevents the "frail edge" of S/S wires to be exposed. Ultimately it's these edges of exposed wires that conduct current and "short out" the nichrome / kanthral coil. Hope this helps....

If Raidy can read this - enjoy your holiday! Come back safely and have lot's of fun in the sun!!!!

I made spare cup for the top. Is not fully transparent but I can see enough through it.
Problem of condensation I see on my first improvised cup.

Pictures look great 'peaceoffcake'. I look forward to seeing the rest. 'gbear'; how are you coming w/ yours? Did you solve some of the issues yet?

No, I have given up on this mod. It works. It makes smoke and wicks to the bottom of the tank but, the taste I just don't like ,,,,

I have changed the coil resistance everywhere from 1.5 to 5 ohms. I have changed the coil spacing and number of wraps from 3 to 8 wraps and from 3mm down to .5mm I have changed the wick diam from 1.5mm to 1.8mm to 2mm The voltage from 3v to 5.5volts and with all of these changes I made them everywhere in between. Still no matter what I do it tastes to icky sweet for me and the condensation fills my throat and lungs with to much, errr, what ever it is,,,,,,, I will move on to some other mod.

I have wondered about using carbon in place of the SS mesh as a heating coil so that no nichrome or kanthal wire is used. but the spacing between the two supply wires could be varied to change the resistance of the heating element. and it would wick like the SS does in this mod. (but I'll never build it)

I used 400 mesh and 32ga kanthal. I even used some tea bag for a wick and some cotton cross stitch thread too.
I didn't get much of a difference no matter what I did. the change was very subtle. Lowering the voltage made the most difference. The lower the voltage the sweeter it got and the more condensation I got. No other changes made enough difference in the vapor production to mention, except for not using any wick. just a drop on the coil 5 ohms 8 wraps at .5mm spacing. When the coil would start to dry out the vapor production went way up and the taste got to be more like what I was looking for. but 1 drop was to much.

I know that all of this sound critical but remember that I am talking about taste,,, and that is very subjective. everyone else may just love this taste. I also kinda look at it like my attempt to cook grandma's biskets. when I finished cooking them, they looked just like hers., after all I used everything that she used but,,, NO BODY wanted to eat them after their first bite.

I discussed my thoughts on this a bit over here

That's kind of where I'm sitting, there has to be some magic with how the mesh is rolled. I've tried 235, 400, and 500 with 32ga and 36ga kanthal. I've tried several different ways of rolling the mesh, I've even tried embedding a small piece of silica rope in the middle. I'm not sure where to go from here.

I was looking forward to making one, I just got the last part to get my lathe operational again, but until I can figure out how to get this to work correctly I'm stuck.

Oh mine seems to work alright, Like I said it wicks to the bottom of the tank, doesn't leak, If you take the top off and test fire it, it smokes to beat the band, especially if you lightly blow on it. yea I had some problems getting the coil to not glow (it gets hot enough to ignite the juice if that happens. Then you have a small fire). but that easily fixed by moving the wire around just a bit. The problems that I am having is that there is no smoke on the exhale, and the condensation along with the taste. It's like drinking syrup. As for the condensation, You saw the pic of my top after 6 hits. I have used the same top on "The Brick @ 4.9 v and a stock 2.5 ohm 510 atty with NO condensation after 2 dozen hits. I feel it is not healthy to have that much condensation going into the lungs. The smoke is to wet, it sticks to the throat and lungs as it goes in, and that is why there is nothing coming out.

Perhaps no one here has been more excited than I have been with this project, and I have been careful not to say anything to discourage others from finishing this project. With great respect for Master Raidy because of his willingness to share with us and to see if I was the only one that is having a problem. (From the many PMs that I am getting I can see that I am not the only one). I hope that as others get their units working we will get more reports, and perhaps it is just my unit. I can live with that. I can't cook biscuits either. I really want to see pics of other clear tops in regard to the condensation.

Boys, I've made mine and it works perfectly! You must be missing something - or maybe it's the juice you're using? Dunno? Will post pics of mine in the AM. I like it.

Same juice that I have been using for the past 5 months. Please post a pic of the results of a clear top too.
