I put mesh in a hole 2,2mm with no ss tube and its work excelent. I have problem with transport liquid (after 3-4 puffs the mesh is dry) and I must wait about 20-30 sec to be wet again. Then I put another mesh of 1mm inside the mesh tube (I have hole in the middle of 2,2mm mesh) and now everything is perfect.
Sorry for my english. I hope you understand all.

Grainger sells the SS mesh - expand the mesh size list here.

How is everyone sealing the wires where they go through the top cap?

Also, what about fastening the connectors, especially when using screws to hold the Kanthal wire?

Thank you.

I pressed a 510 atty connector into the bottom cap and soldered solid core (doorbell wire) to it. put some heat shrink around it and at the top the heat shrink just barely came through the hole for a good seal. soldered it to brass #4 nuts. I used 1 insulated standoff for the + side. but with solid core wire you don't have to have a standoff, it will stay where you put it.

poland, and the brassy lands of google
I was concerned about the anodizing, but it seems to be a protective layer that can take the heat. As for holding liquid I wouldn't worry. Just to be on the safe side, a small tube between the mesh wick and the exposed alu in the hole would be a good idea. The materials used to make the fobs are unknown, and it would be good to minimize any risks. Raidy has done a couple with jumbo fobs, but we haven't seen the insides yet :)

Has anyone found any good US suppliers for the mesh. I found 1 that will sell a 3x3" swatch for $25 after shipping but I would rather get more than 3x3 and if you get a square foot they require you to get 5 of them making it $90 after shipping. I just want something like a square foot for $25 after shipping.

McMaster-Carr, they have wire cloth:

McMaster-Carr

type 304 SS ... good corrosion resistance
type 316 SS ... molybdenum content for chemical resistance
type 430 SS ... good corrosion resistance, chromium based (ferritic) and magnetic

(the question is which one to get, probably type 304, but then you can also choose the wire cloth thickness too) I think you can get a square foot for about $15
