Well I guess it looks nice, but how does it vape? An actual, you vaping it, pic would have told more of the story. It also seems to vary quite a bit from Raidy's. More mesh exposed, more than his 3 wraps of wire. Was there a reason you went that route? How did that affect your performance?

A few details and some real assessments as to it's performance would help others in their quest.

I gotta quit reading this thread 45 pages at a time :0 Very nice work here, I'll say it again. I'll be ordering some mesh from ebay (NICE find!) asap.

Quick question.-My mother owns a kiln and many ceramic supplies. Safe right? for endcaps on the tank...

Lee, cermic is 100% safe and perfect to use. Just make sure you drill the small holes first before firing the ceramic.

like i said, it's my very first effort. it vapes ok for the first 3 seconds then starts to overheat. using a 5v puck to test with and 0.2 kanthal, so there's too much power going through it, hence the extra wraps to increase resistance. got some 0.16 kanthal on order so we'll see if that helps. will probably have to drop the voltage too. don't really want to as i like the puck, it lasts for ages! just wanted to make one first off to see if i could get the principles to work, so now at least i have something to work with!

poland, and the brassy lands of google
For a quick test try a dummy cell (piece of metal) instead of a NiMh and see how it does at 3.6v. It would be a shame to have all that work gone for nothing. As to the 3 holes, I'm not sure that is so good, there ought to be one at the level of the coil (so it blows on it) and anything above that point you are cutting the vapor with fresh air.

hi. the oxidation is not good if it glow. you have to get a better oxidation.
this is how i do it:
Make the mesh roll and the kanthal.
i have to make a video of it how i do.

OK Just a few Gummy thoughts now for all that are thinking about doing this or have done a prototype.

I see a lot of posts here about just how to do this or that, and I would like to say that (with in reason) there is no right/wrong way to make this. Everyone likes something different. Make it however you like. Then if it needs fine tuning, change something to make it how you like the throat hit/vapor production. Wind the wick looser/tighter, wrap the wick thicker/thinner, make 3 turns or 4 or 5 if you like, power it at 3.7 or 5 volts if that's what tastes good to you. (however, when we get to Part 2 I'm sure that anything over 3.7 volts won't work with Raidy's electronics) But my point is that if you made one and don't like the taste or the vapor production, you didn't do it wrong,, you just haven't found the combination that works for you yet. Play with it, build a bunch of different coil/wick combos.
